Beizheng Street Church of Changsha, formerly known as "Trinity Church of the Anglican Church of China", is a cultural relic protection unit in Hunan Province and a modern protected building. It was built in 1905, destroyed in 1910, rebuilt in 1911 and completed in 1915. After liberation, it was used as the match warehouse of Changsha Department store and the celebration center of Xiangcai company, and resumed on December 20, 2004.

Beizheng Street Christian is a typical Gothic architecture, designed by Dr. Meng Liangzuo (Bishop). The church faces east and West, with a building area of 703.09 square meters and a Latin layout. The catapult type Shikumen, the rhombic lattice window leaf and the red flat tile roof are the unique European style church buildings in Changsha. The church is built by large pieces of stone with solid structure and rough appearance. It is the only stone church in Changsha. Huang Xing, a revolutionary of the 1911 Revolution, once took refuge in the Anglican Church. On the inner wall of the gate, there are still inscriptions inscribed by Huang Xing in 1912: "the holy name of Jesus, the sincerity of worship, the inferiority of the superior and the salvation of the world.".

In 1907, Meng Liangzuo was the president of the Anglican Church of Changsha. He once participated in the establishment of Huazhong University, the predecessor of Huazhong Normal University. He left China in 1948. During his stay in China, in 1905, he went to Changsha, selected a site in Beizheng street, drew the drawings of the church and built the church. Because the church is made of stone, it is warm in winter and cool in summer. In 1910, the local hungry people destroyed foreign consulates, foreign firms and churches, and the church in Beizheng street was almost destroyed. In 1911, the church began to be rebuilt, and it was only in 1915 that it was completely repaired, named "Trinity hall". The existing church plane layout is cross shaped, sitting east facing west, 15 meters high, surrounded by 22 1.1 meters square stone columns as the skeleton, by flat hexagonal granite wall. Four pointed stone pillars are erected in the positive direction, the middle pillar is a catapult type Shikumen, the left and right pillars are set with semi arc windows, and the granite windowsill line. Others are catapult windows, anling Plaid window pages, chestnut paint. The interior wood mat floor, in front of the Bible platform, 0.5 meters high, 9 meters wide, 5 meters deep. The hardwood flat arched roof truss is a unique stone building in Changsha, with internal nail and inner board and red flat tile roof.

In 1904, the 30th year of Guangxu, Huang Xing, Chen Tianhua and Liu Kui founded Huaxing Association in Changsha. With the purpose of "expelling the Tartars and restoring China", they set up another Association to contact the most influential parties in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River at that time. Liu Kuiyi praised the party's aim of fighting against the Qing Dynasty, uniting and upholding justice, and urged Huang Xing to contact Ma Fuyi, the leader of the party, to plan major events. Huang Xing then sent Liu Daoyi and WAN Wu to meet Ma Fuyi and instigate him. Ma Fuyi said that he was "obedient". It was agreed that Cixi's 70th birthday, the 10th day of the 10th lunar month, should be bombed in Changsha to kill the civil and military officials in the provincial capital who paid homage to the Empress Dowager and took the opportunity to seize the provincial capital. On September 24, that is, the Mid Autumn Festival in August of the lunar calendar, Liu Kuiyi, appointed by Huang Xing, presided over the solemn ceremony of conferring General Ma Fuyi as major general during the Liuyang Puji cattle and horse trading conference. Ma Fuyi was granted 20 guns, 40 pistols and 40 war horses. When the ceremony was held, the audience was very excited, and they agreed to revolt ahead of time only when a large number of ordnance arrived in Shanghai. However, the news of the Huaxing incident has long been noticed by the authorities. When Liu Zuoji, the scum of the party, informed the relevant officials of the Qing government about the meeting in Puji City, the authorities began to investigate and arrest huaxinghui. All of a sudden, the city of Changsha is full of terror. On October 24, Xiangfu ordered the arrest of Huang Xing, and the military and police immediately surrounded Huang Xing's house. At that time, Huang Xing did not return home. Thanks to his young son Huang yiou, Huang did not return to his home. Instead, he went to the home of long Zhang, one of the members of Huaxing society near the school. It was almost dusk, and only 10 days before the birthday of the Royal society. Due to the urgent pursuit by the military and police, the whole city of Changsha was full of soldiers. For the sake of safety, Cao Yabo discussed with the Minister Huang Jiting of the Anglican Church in Changsha. He thought that the officials of the Qing government did not dare to offend the church at that time, so the Minister Huang Jiting took a sedan chair to enter the inner room of long Zhang, and then Huang Xing took a sedan chair to one of the back alleys of the Anglican Church It's very secure.

Huang Xing had been living in seclusion for nearly a month. After the arrest, the air slowed down slightly, and he intended to leave Changsha. At this time, pastor Huang Jiting had a secret discussion with pastor Hu Lanting, the president of the Anglican Association and daily knowledge society in gaojiaxiang, Wuchang, who was going from Wuhan to Changsha, to find a way to escort Huang Xing out of the city. Pastor Hu first shaved off Huang Xing's "Yellow Emperor style" beard, which greatly changed Huang Xing's appearance. Then Huang Xing and Huang Jiting disguised themselves as customs officers and left the city gate at dusk to Deng Yuzhen, a customs officer appointed in advance. After dinner, Huang and Huang boarded the Japanese ship yuanjiangwan and left Changsha at about 4 a.m. and arrived in Hankou safely at about 9 p.m. At this time, it happened that the "Jiangheng" ship of China Merchants Group was berthed in the middle of the river and was ready to leave for Shanghai. So they hired a boat and Huang Jiting sent Huang Xing to "Jiangheng". When they arrived in Shanghai, they sent a telegram with the word "Xing" to tell them that they had arrived safely. After witnessing the opening of the "Jiangheng" ship, Huang Jiting also sailed back to Hunan at night.

In 1912, after the success of the revolution of 1911, Huang Xing went back to Changsha to meet with Reverend Huang Jiting at Beizheng Street Church. Huang Xing inscribed the couplet "Jesus' name, sincere worship, humble, for the savior" and presented it to the church. The couplet is still in good condition. In 1913, Huang Xing was baptized in St. Peter's Church in Shanghai and became an "Anglican".

cultural heritage

After the "Cultural Revolution", beizhengjie church was handed over to Changsha Department store as a match warehouse. It was returned to the church in the late 1980s, and the handwriting of "Sheng Kung Hui of China" above the church gate has been preserved. In 2004, the church repaired the church and resumed its religious activities, changing the handwriting of "Anglican Church of China" to "beizhengjie church".

In 2002, beizhengjie church was announced as a key cultural relic protection unit in Hunan Province.

Resumption of religious activities

In 2004, the "two churches" of Hunan Province repaired the beizhengjie church and resumed religious activities. On December 20 of the same year, the beizhengjie church officially resumed and opened to the general public. At present, there are three Sunday worship halls and group meetings every Monday and Friday evening.
