Development history
Guilin Botanical Garden, founded in 1958, is one of the top ten botanical gardens established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It was founded by famous botanists Chen Huanyong and Zhong Jixin. In the 1960s, it was under the leadership of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1996, it was under the dual leadership of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region and Chinese Academy of Sciences, and implemented the integrated system of Research Institute and botanical garden.

Guilin Botanical Garden is located in Yanshan Town, Yanshan District, southern suburb of Guilin city. It is 20 kilometers away from the city center and covers an area of 73 hectares. It is located on the golden tourist road from Guilin to Yangshuo. It is the only way for tourists to return to Guilin after visiting the Lijiang River.

Rhododendron Garden
Covering an area of 4.1 hectares, the Rhododendron Garden was built in 2000. More than 6500 rhododendrons of more than 100 species (including varieties) were collected and planted in the garden, including many important germplasm resources, such as Rhododendron Taiping, Rhododendron labarum, Rhododendron ambrosioides, Rhododendron Wuming, etc. it is the largest Rhododendron Garden with the largest number of species and species in Guangxi. There are two artificial lakes at the foot of the mountain, covering an area of 400 square meters and 2000 square meters respectively. Baizhuyuan
Covering an area of 2.0 hectares, the bamboo garden has introduced and cultivated more than 180 kinds of bamboos. Bamboos are green and beautiful all the year round, showing people a rich and colorful world of bamboos, including Zizhu, Fangzhu, huangjinjian biyuzhu, Buddha belly bamboo, and Guangxi's unique Shishan bamboo, rutin bamboo, etc. The footpath in the garden is built along the mountain, winding and dotted with flowers and shrubs on both sides. The artificial water surface landscape of 2000 square meters is created by using the mountainous terrain. It is a key park for leisure and visit.
Peach Garden
Peach garden is located in the south of bamboo garden, covering an area of 1.5 hectares. Many Sapium sebiferum varieties are planted in the garden. The combination of Sapium sebiferum and peach blossom makes it possible to enjoy the beauty of peach blossom in spring and the warmth of red leaves of Sapium sebiferum in autumn. In the garden, 50 peach varieties with high ornamental value, such as hongbitao and hongyetao, were introduced and cultivated, supplemented by other ornamental trees and shrubs of Rosaceae, forming a colorful scene in early spring. Palm Garden
Palms and cycads are garden plants with high ornamental value, mainly distributed in tropical and subtropical regions. There are more than 50 species of palms and more than 10 species of Cycads in Guangxi. Covering an area of 20 mu, the area has collected 12 kinds of palm plants and 5 kinds of cycads with tropical and subtropical scenery, cultivated nearly 200 plants in the open field, laid lawns and arranged garden sketches, showing a new look of cycads with modern garden techniques, making it highly ornamental.
Jinhua tea garden
Camellia chrysantha is a famous ornamental plant, mainly distributed in Guangxi. Its petals are golden yellow, waxy, beautiful and elegant. It is unique among the rare camellia flowers and enjoys the reputation of "Queen of tea clan". Jinhua tea garden covers an area of 0.8 hectares. There are 22 kinds of Jinhua tea, including Jinhua tea, xianmai Jinhua tea, maoban Jinhua tea, aomai Jinhua tea, etc. At the same time, the park collected and cultivated 50 excellent camellia varieties, such as Wantian safflower Camellia oleifera.
Gymnosperms area
Gymnosperms area covers an area of 1.3 hectares, mainly collecting and preserving gymnosperms. It is the first park built and opened to the outside world in the botanical garden, and also one of the most beautiful parks in the botanical garden. The area is centered on a 600 square meter Manila lawn, surrounded by arbor species of Cupressaceae, Taxodiaceae and Pinaceae, with rich and diverse plant species. More than 200 species of gymnosperms belonging to 40 genera and 10 families have been cultivated and displayed in the park, including Ginkgo biloba, Cathaya argyrophylla, Metasequoia glyptostroboides, Cycas panzhihuaensis, spicea yunnanensis, Taxus yunnanensis and other foreign species, such as Araucaria glyptostroboides, world yesters and Larix gmelinii, as well as world famous ornamental tree species Cedrus, Lysimachia and Araucaria. Guangxi endemic Botanical Garden
Guangxi is rich in plant resources. There are more than 860 species of endemic plants, most of which have narrow distribution, special habitat and few resources. Guangxi endemic plant area was founded in 2005, covering an area of 2.7 hectares. It mainly collects and preserves Guangxi endemic plants. There are more than 300 kinds of Guangxi endemic plants in the park, many of which have important scientific research, economic and ornamental value, such as Gesneriaceae, Begonia, camellia and Aspidistra.
Rare and endangered Botanical Garden
The ex situ conservation park of rare and endangered plants covers an area of 2 hectares. The ex situ conservation of rare and endangered plants in the park started in the 1950s. In 1988, with the support of the science and Technology Department of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, the ex situ conservation research of rare and endangered plants began systematically and continuously, focusing on the collection and preservation of rare and endangered plants in Guangxi. After years of continuous ex situ conservation, more than 300 kinds of rare and endangered plants have been introduced, among which 204 species are distributed in Guangxi, 166 species are listed in the first volume of China's list of rare and endangered plants, and 7 species are ex situ preserved among 8 first-class protected plants (including tea queen camellia, wangtianshu, which is only produced in Xishuangbanna primeval forest in China, with a height of more than 70 meters) Metasequoia glyptostroboides, known as a living fossil in the world, Cathaya argyrophylla, dove tree Davidia involucrata and so on. After years of efforts, a special garden of rare and endangered plants has been built, which integrates scientific research, popular science and ornamental functions. It is the special garden with the largest number of rare and endangered plants in China.
