Daping mountain is located in the northwest of Guiping, about 25 kilometers away from the urban area, with a total area of 1806.7 hectares. The Tropic of cancer runs through the central part of the mountain. It is a relatively complete tropical and subtropical natural seasonal rain forest region.

Daping mountain has a unique geographical structure and gorgeous scenery. It has a unique style of green forest, waterfall and stream, and is known as the green treasure house on the Tropic of cancer. In 1980, it was divided into animal and plant nature reserve, which is an important part of Longtan National Forest Park.

Resources and environment

There are 1015 plant species belonging to 507 genera of 164 families, including tree fern, Gemu and five needle pine, which belong to the first, second and third categories of national key protection; there are 8 orders, 23 families and 40 genera of animal species, including crocodile lizard and macaque mountain beetle, which belong to the national key protection.

Daping Mountain Nature Reserve is rich in plant resources, including 164 families, 507 genera and 1015 species. Its area is only one ninth of that of Maoer Mountain in northern Guangxi and one hundred and twenty-three of that of Dayao Mountain, but it has more plant species than Maoer Mountain and Dayao Mountain. In Daping mountain, there are a class of plants that are under the state key protection, such as tree fern, pig (Dragon) blood wood, Mulian, etc. These are known as "living fossils", which are widely distributed in the nature reserve, and some places also grow in pieces. It belongs to the second and third categories of plants under the state key protection, including fragrant wood, wood claw red, bamboo cypress, five needle pine, Ren Dou, labyrinth leaf slub tree, grid wood, Bauhinia tree, etc. These tree species are of high scientific research value, some of which are valuable landscape trees or excellent building timber trees. Some tree species, such as Paulownia, Quercus glauca, houpixiang, red cangmu, safflower camellia, Rhododendron of various colors, exotic Cymbidium and Cymbidium, as well as wild kiwifruit and raspberry, are rare to see in other places, but can be seen everywhere in Daping mountain. Chinese herbal medicine plays an important role in the treasure house of plant resources in Daping mountain. There are 570 species of medicinal plants, accounting for 56.2% of the total plant species, and 16% of the total medicinal plant species in Guangxi. The more common Chinese herbal medicines are: zhuxuemu, Huangjing, Jigucao, Guanzhong, Drynaria, Dendrobium, Gouteng, gardenia, niuqi, Gouji, Dinggongteng, lingzhi, qiyeyizhihua, etc. Among them, zhuxuemu is the best hemostatic drug in the world so far, which has been paid attention by medical circles at home and abroad.

There are many kinds of rare birds and animals, and the animal resources of Daping mountain are also very rich. According to the investigation in recent years, there are as many as 40 genera, 23 families, 8 orders. The common fish here are Siniperca chuatsi, Wuxian, Clarias fuscus, eel, and so on. Frogs can be divided into mountain frogs and plain frogs. Mountain frogs (clams) include spiny breasted frogs, big green frogs, big head frogs, South China turbulent frogs and South China rain frogs. Plain frogs include Ze frogs, marsh frogs and tiger frogs. The frogs produced here are very large, some of which weigh as much as one Jin each. Reptiles include snake, gecko, Eagle beaked turtle, chameleon lizard, spotted lizard, etc. Among snakes, there are boa constrictor, king cobra, bamboo leaf green, etc. There are two kinds of animals that belong to the national key protection: macaque, pangolin, forest musk deer, black necked pheasant, owl, golden pheasant and so on. There are three kinds of protected wild animals, including Sumen antelope, civet (civet), white crane, gecko, tiger frog, etc.

Daping Mountain Nature Reserve is located in the hinterland of Datang gorge in the northwest of Guiping City, about 25 kilometers away from the urban area. With steep mountains, ravines, abundant rainfall, developed joints and peculiar geographical structure, magnificent landscape, fragrant exotic flowers and plants, rare tropical trees and rare birds and beasts, it is a relatively complete tropical and subtropical natural seasonal rain forest region in Southeast Guangxi. It is known as "little Xishuangbanna". In 1980, the people's Government of Guiping County announced that it was designated as an animal and plant nature reserve.

The natural conditions are unique. Daping mountain nature reserve covers an area of about 28000 mu. The main peak, malaiding, is 1158 meters above sea level. Most of its peaks, such as dry scour, collapse scour, Tiantang mountain, Xiaoping mountain, longchong, deep scour and oblique scour, are between 800 and 900 meters above sea level, with a relative height of about 800 meters. According to the investigation and study of geographers, the formation of Daping mountain is relatively old. It was exposed to the sea as early as the Caledonian movement in the geological age, and has a history of 300 million years. It was about 120 million years earlier than Xishan. Daping mountain was less damaged by the fourth glacier (Himalayan movement in Pleistocene), so some tropical and subtropical organisms in ancient times survived. Daping mountain is located on the northern edge of the Tropic of cancer and the southern end of Dayao Mountain. It is the windward side of the Tropical Ocean monsoon. It has abundant heat, sufficient light and abundant rainfall. The average annual rainfall is 1893 mm, the average annual accumulated temperature is above 7600 ℃, and the weather above 6 ℃ lasts for 300 days on average. The soil is developed on the Devonian mud layer, with a thickness of 30 cm to 60 cm and higher natural fertility. All these provide favorable natural conditions for forest growth.

Geomorphological features

The Danxia landform structure is peculiar, and the Daping Mountain Nature Reserve has complex terrain and peculiar structure. Most of the gullies are in the shape of "V" and some are in the shape of "U". Cliffs with 90 degree angles can be seen everywhere. Looking up from the bottom of the gullies, you can see only a line of blue sky. The mountains formed by the overlapping rocks are as big as the thousand layer cake. Overlooking the foot of the mountain from the top of the peak, you can see the vast jungle, looming and changing in the vast sea of clouds. What is particularly valuable is that the mountain here is mainly composed of purple red shale and gray sandstone, mixed with each other, with extremely thick rock strata and developed joints, which is a rare Danxia landform at home and abroad. Due to the lush forests and abundant water resources, there are many waterfalls in Daping mountain. The waterfall of xiaopingshan flyover falls down more than 100 meters. The sound is like thunder, and the water splashes tens of meters away. The scene is particularly spectacular.

Daping Mountain Nature Reserve is not only an old mountain, but also a newly discovered scenic spot.
