The two floor silk road exhibition is the essence of the whole museum. The treasure of the town hall is "horse riding swallow" and the China Post sign post makes the picture bricks here.
·The Buddhist museum displays the Buddhist culture with different characteristics of Han, Tibetan and western regions, as well as the grotto art in Dunhuang and Tianshui.
·Visitors to the museum are required to dress neatly. Slippers may not be allowed in, and lighters may not be allowed in.
Gansu Provincial Museum
Gansu Provincial Museum is located at No.3 Xijin West Road, Qilihe district, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province. It is a large-scale comprehensive museum in Gansu Province. It was built in 1956 with a building area of more than 21000 square meters and an exhibition area of more than 13000 square meters.
Gansu Provincial Museum has a collection of more than 350000 historical relics, modern cultural relics, ethnic cultural relics, and paleontological fossils and specimens.
Gansu Provincial Museum has become the main position to spread science popularization and education to the public. It has been selected as the national patriotic education base and the national popular science education base. At the end of 2012, Gansu Provincial Museum was promoted to a national first-class Museum.
In October 2018, it was named "national primary and secondary students' research and practice education base" in 2018.
Development history
In 1939, the board of directors of Sino British Boxer Indemnity established Gansu Science Education Museum.
In 1943, it was renamed National Gansu science and education museum.
In 1950, it was renamed northwest people's Science Museum.
In 1956, it was officially named Gansu Provincial Museum.
In 2006, the new exhibition building of Gansu Provincial Museum was completed and opened.
architectural composition
The plane of Gansu Provincial Museum is in the shape of "mountain", with five floors in the middle and three floors on the two wings. Behind it is the exhibition hall, and there is a circular lecture hall at the end. On both sides of the exhibition hall are four meter wide corridors, which are connected with the two wings. The building is designed by Soviet experts with unique style. The Provincial Museum has a history hall, a revolutionary cultural relics hall, a nature hall, an exhibition hall for socialist construction, a cultural relics safekeeping room, a Han bamboo slips room, a cultural relics laboratory and reproduction room, and the Wei and Jin tomb paintings that have been relocated and restored in Jiayuguan.
The exhibition building has a construction area of 28000 square meters, including 7600 square meters of collection warehouse and 9000 square meters of exhibition hall. It is an intelligent building integrating office area, collection warehouse area and exhibition area.

"Gansu painted pottery" exhibition hall
The exhibition hall displays Dadiwan culture, Yangshao culture, Majiayao culture and Bronze Age colored pottery. Among them, wide band pattern three legged pottery bowl, head shaped pottery bottle and Dadiwan local painting attract people's attention.
Exhibition hall of "Gansu Silk Road civilization"
More than 420 cultural relics systematically reflecting the ancient Silk Road are displayed, including rich and colorful cultural heritages such as bronze ware of northern grassland culture, bronze galloping horse and guard of honor, silk fabrics of Han and Tang Dynasties, Buddhist statues, gold and silver ware, Tri Color of Tang Dynasty, blue and white of yuan Dynasty, etc.
Exhibition hall of "Gansu paleontological fossils"
Based on the evolution history of the earth's life, a large number of paleontological fossils found in Gansu Province are displayed, including four sub exhibition halls: Earth hall, marine animal hall, dinosaur hall and Yellow River ancient elephant hall. This paper introduces the evolution of the earth and life, the Paleozoic, Mesozoic and Cenozoic fossils in geological period, and their living environment and related knowledge.

Collection
Gansu Provincial Museum has a collection of more than 350000 historical relics, modern cultural relics, ethnic cultural relics, and paleontological fossils and specimens. Cultural relics include from the Cretaceous fossil specimens to the Paleolithic and Neolithic painted pottery culture; from the bronzes and jades since the Shang and Zhou Dynasties to the Silk Road civilization of the Han and Tang Dynasties; and from the porcelain, wood carvings, silk fabrics and paintings of the song, yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Among them, the collection of painted pottery, Han Dynasty bamboo slips, documents, Han and Tang Silk Road treasures, Buddhist art treasures are the most prominent.
Since the establishment of the museum, more than 82000 pieces of historical and cultural relics have been collected through archaeological excavation, collection and donation. There are more than 3000 pieces of high-quality historical and cultural relics, 16 pieces (groups) of national treasure level cultural relics, and more than 720 pieces (groups) of national first-class cultural relics.
There are various kinds of Neolithic painted pottery and grotto art treasures in the museum, showing the development system of painted pottery in Gansu Province which lasted for 7000-3000 years. Precious silk and hemp fabrics, scriptures and documents, wood, lacquer and bronze wares, a large number of Han bamboo slips and cultural relics of the Great Wall, as well as bronze chariots and horses, wooden chariots and horses, gold and silver relic coffins, Xixia texts and cultural relics, and TIANTI Mountain Grottoes.

Yongle gold plated Bodhisattva sitting statue
In the Ming Dynasty, the statue was 20.3 cm high. This figure is wearing a corolla and a bun. The Bodhisattva's face is wide, his forehead is abundant, his eyes are slightly drooping, and his face is kind. She is wearing a silk scarf with tassels at the front of her chest. Her pattern is smooth and beautiful. Her lower skirt is wide and close to her body. She is seated on a lotus pedestal with a deep waist. The inscription "Yongle nianshi of the Ming Dynasty" is engraved on the bottom of the rosette, which should be a tribute given by the Ming Dynasty to Tibetan Buddhist leaders in Northwest China. The overall structure of Bodhisattva statue is well proportioned, and the carving is delicate and refined. Although it still retains the influence of the "Sanskrit statue" of aniko since the Yuan Dynasty, its shape has tended to be charming, which marks the maturity of the inland Chinese Tibetan Buddhist art and is an intriguing treasure.
Round bottom color pottery pot with triangle pattern
Qijia culture, unearthed at Yatou, baliyao, Lanzhou City, 9.5cm in diameter and 22cm in height; collected by Gansu Provincial Museum. Orange yellow pottery with sand and purple red color. Draw a circle of inverted triangle pattern inside and outside the mouth, fold band pattern in the ear, double triangle pattern in layers on both sides of the abdomen, separate the layers with parallel lines, and diamond pattern on both sides of the abdomen. The patterns are all composed of parallel lines, which are tedious but not messy.
Gourd shaped reticulated pottery pot
Majiayao culture of mid level type (4500 years ago) huazhaizi, Lanzhou City, unearthed 46.7 cm high, 12.2 cm diameter, bottom diameter 16.8 cm. Shi Hong, black color, neck painted mesh, shoulder, abdomen painted six groups of gourd shaped mesh, decorated with serrated.
Whirlpool pattern pottery pot
The mid mountain type of Majiayao culture (4500 years ago) was unearthed in huazhaizi, Lanzhou, with a height of 22.5 cm, a diameter of 14.1 cm and a bottom diameter of 10.6 cm. The pot body is painted with red and black colors, the mouth is painted with inner color, and there are horizontal and vertical parallel stripes arranged alternately. The abdomen is painted with red and black colors, and there are five groups of alternate spiral patterns.
Painted figurines of mubo Opera
The Western Han Dynasty, Wuwei City, Mo ZuiZi Han tomb unearthed, 29 cm high. The two old men were playing boxing, which was a very popular form of entertainment from the Warring States period to the Han Dynasty. The craftsman depicted the game scene of the two old men with simple and lively artistic modeling, which vividly showed the scene of ready to go when playing chess.
Copper horse
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Leitai Han tomb in Wuwei city was excavated, with a height of 34.5 cm, a length of 45 cm, a width of 13.1 cm and a weight of 7.3 kg. The shape is vigorous and exquisite, with head raised, hissing and feet galloping. The shaper took in the moment when the galloping horse's three feet soared and one foot surpassed the flying bird.
Embroidered figure on silk bottom
In the Western Han Dynasty, a 7.2-centimeter-high tomb was unearthed in mozizi, Wuwei city. On a red silk background, the two figures are embroidered with red, light green, light yellow and black silk threads for dialogue.
Important events
On the morning of May 6, 2016, an interview group composed of six media including Washington Post of the United States, Le Monde of France, radio and television of Italy, Kyodo news agency of Japan, Hindu daily and Kazakh news agency visited the Gansu Provincial Museum.
On May 15, 2016, Gansu Provincial Museum hosted the "third children's calligraphy and painting competition". More than 800 works were selected from more than 2000 works of units and individuals from "Gansu mountain primary school", "Lanzhou blind, deaf and dumb school", and various art training institutions inside and outside the province, and displayed in Gansu Provincial Museum.
On May 18, 2016, the museum and cultural landscape "the third children's calligraphy and painting competition" and "love" charity sale of calligraphy and painting works and 100 meter long scroll painting activities were launched.
