Yaozhihe village belongs to Maqiao Town, Baokang County, Hubei Province. It is located at the junction of Fangxian, Shennongjia and Baokang counties (districts) in Shiyan City. It is a typical remote alpine mountain area. The village has two residential quarters, 164 households and 649 people.

The village covers an area of 33.4 square kilometers and 700 mu of arable land. With an average altitude of more than 1600 meters, "there are many big mountains, so you can climb when you go out", "April snow, August frost" are the true portrayals of the natural environment here.

In December 2017, Yaozhihe village was awarded the top 300 influential villages in 2017.

On July 28, 2019, it was selected into the list of the first batch of key Rural Tourism Villages in China.

Origin of village name

Yao Zhihe is a simple, beautiful and moving ancient legend. According to legend, in the book of the five emperors and related historical books, Emperor Yao "is as benevolent as heaven, and knows as God". When he learned that there was a dragon hidden in a cave here, he often went out to do evil and hurt the people, and then sent Lei Gong to chop the dragon to death, so that people could enjoy peace again. Yao Zhihe got his name from this.

The construction of village situation

Yaozhihe used to be a famous poor village in Baokang County. By 1988, the whole village was still "food, clothes, kerosene lamps and thatched cottages". The per capita grain of the whole village is less than 300 Jin, and the average income is less than 300 yuan. There is neither access nor electricity. Since 1988, a group of village Party committee members have led the whole village to challenge the harsh living environment. With the perseverance of Yugong, they have carried forward the spirit of "self-reliance, unity and struggle, harmonious entrepreneurship, and scientific development" of Yao Zhihe. They have built roads, blasted rocks and mined mines, built dams and built power plants, reconstructed farmland and built factories. After 20 years of hard work and rapid development, we finally got rid of the hat of poverty and created a miracle of development in poor, remote and alpine villages. In 1998, it became the "richest village" in Baokang County, one of the top 500 villages in Hubei Province and the national civilized village. Now it has developed into a large enterprise group integrating phosphate mining, fine phosphorus chemical research and development, hydropower, tourism, wine industry and catering services. It has 22 village level enterprises and more than 1500 professional talents and employees. More than 70% of the farmers in the village live in villas, and 46% own private cars. Yeren cave is a natural limestone cave. It is said that it was named after local farmer Yin Hongfa fighting with Yeren at the cave in 1974. The developed cave is nearly 2 km deep. There are 59 scenes of five halls and five palaces in the cave. There are thousands of stalactites in the cave. The underground river in the cave is clear and has a constant temperature of 14 ℃ in four seasons.
