The origin of the name

Sanbao tree is named after three special ancient trees, two Cryptomeria fortunei and one Ginkgo biloba. Because these three trees are in front of the Mountain Gate of Huanglong Temple, they are known as "treasures of the temple", so they are called "three treasure trees".

The second reason is that these trees are planted by Buddhist disciples, who are also called the three treasures disciples (Buddha, Dharma and monk are the three treasures), so they are called the three treasures tree.

It has been more than 1600 years, according to the "Brahma tree, monk Tanshen hand stick" carved on the huge rock under the tree. Tanshen is the founder of Dalin temple and a disciple of Huiyuan, an eminent monk of Donglin temple.

Cryptomeria fortunei, formerly known as Borneo, is a tree species introduced from western regions.

Ginkgo biloba, known as "Ginkgo biloba", is a plant left over from Quaternary glaciers. It is known as "living fossil". Because the ancestors planted trees, the grandchildren could bear fruit, so it is called "Gongsun fruit". Three trees flying in the air, about 40 meters high, about four people thick embrace.

There used to be thousands of fir trees here, and the ancient trees were towering. Later, because of the illegal cutting by monks in the 50th year of Kangxi (1717), only these three ancient trees were left. According to the research of experts, they were actually planted in the Ming Dynasty. Xu Xiake, a traveler in the 40th year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1618), recorded in his travels to Lushan Mountain: "by the side of Huanglong Temple, there are big trees, surrounded by three people, not cypress, not fir, with many branches." According to this calculation, sanbaoshu has a history of at least 400 years. It is said that three ancient trees were almost killed in the hands of emperor Shenzong of Ming Dynasty.

According to legend, Emperor Shenzong set up a temporary palace in Huanglong Temple. He wanted to hold a banquet with three stumps and ordered a hundred craftsmen to chop and saw. It's useless to cut down a hundred famous craftsmen. The saw can't pull in. The emperor was angry and wanted to kill the craftsmen. All the craftsmen had to turn the tree and cry. Sanbao tree moved to open his mouth. The master craftsman how to cut himself, from the craftsman moved, think that the tree has feelings, how can people have no righteousness. The craftsmen held the idea that they would rather die than cut down the three trees. The emperor learned that he appreciated the tree's lover and courage, and took back the holy order. "Three treasure trees" have been preserved ever since.
