In the autumn of 1937, Japanese artillery fire filled half of China. Forced by the war, Zhejiang University was forced to go west. Under the leadership of president Zhu Kezhen, more than 760 teachers and students have successively moved to Jiande, Zhejiang Province, Ji'an, Jiangxi Province, Taihe, Yishan, Guangxi Province, Qingyan, Guizhou Province, and run schools in exile. After a long journey of more than 2500 kilometers, the teachers and students of Zhejiang University went through many hardships and arrived in Zunyi, Meitan and Yongxing of Guizhou Province in early 1940 to settle down and run schools.
Exhibition hall of Zhejiang University
Located in Meitan Confucian temple, one of the three Confucian temples in Guizhou Province, the Museum of the history of Zhejiang University's westward migration is the only special exhibition hall with the theme of westward migration in China. On July 21, 1990, the Museum of history of Zhejiang University's westward migration was opened in the Confucian temple. There are six exhibition halls in the exhibition hall, which are "long journey to the west", "zunmei school history", "Zhu gongfeng's praise", "Qiushi qunfangpu", "today's Qiushi garden" and "deep friendship between Meizhou and Hangzhou".
At the foot of Huilong mountain in the beautiful east of Meitan City, there is a simple and elegant ancient architectural complex, which is Meitan Confucian temple. Meitan Confucian temple was built in 1600, the 28th year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty. On the five level platform to the west of Huilong mountain, Chongsheng temple, Dacheng hall, bell and Drum Tower, dongxiyuan, Dacheng gate, Lingxing gate, Yuechi, Zhuangyuan bridge and other buildings are arranged from top to bottom. In the second year of the Ming Dynasty and the ninth year of the Qing Dynasty, the Confucian temple was destroyed twice and rebuilt twice. It was not until the fourth year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu that people in urban and rural areas raised money for external decoration, which made it "beautiful and beautiful".
Before the 1940s, there was a people's Education Hall. Later, it was occupied by the Kuomintang's county Party headquarters and the County Council. From the spring of 1940 to the autumn of 1946, Zhejiang University, which moved from the west to the north of Guizhou during the Anti Japanese War, moved to the West. The Department of agricultural college was located here. It has been running for seven years. After the founding of the people's Republic of China, the building below lingxingmen was rebuilt into Meitan county government building, and the building above dachengmen was turned into staff dormitory. In the mid-1980s, when some old alumni from Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou came to Meizhou for a revisit, they proposed to repair the Confucian temple and build a memorial hall for Zhejiang University to move to the West. The provincial and county governments attached great importance to this idea and immediately allocated special funds to carry out the maintenance project of the Confucian temple. Comrade Hu Jintao, who was then Secretary of Guizhou provincial Party committee, showed concern and encouragement when he visited Meizhou.
