Siping Teachers College

Jilin Normal University was founded on September 15, 1958, when its name was Siping normal college. At the beginning of its establishment, there were only 29 teaching staff and 285 students, with four majors of Chinese, mathematics, geography and history. The school did not have its own school building, so it borrowed the second floor of the West Building (student dormitory) of Siping No.1 middle school as a school building and started its own way of running a school.

In 1960, Siping teachers college began to recruit 129 four-year undergraduates. In September of the same year, the school was moved from the second floor of the West Building of Siping No.1 middle school to the new school site (the former office building of Siping Special Office), ending the history of running a school by borrowing land. In October, Siping normal school moved back to Siping from Gongzhuling and merged into Siping normal college, with 1070 students and 184 teaching staff.

From 1962 to 1966, the government of Jilin Province merged Tonghua Teachers College, Baicheng Teachers College and Jilin Teachers College into Siping Teachers College, named Siping teachers college.

In 1966, the total number of students reached 1228, the total number of teaching staff reached 393, covering an area of 1500 mu. It is divided into two schools, East and West.

Siping Normal University

In 1973, with the approval of the higher authorities, Siping normal college was upgraded to Siping normal college.

In 1979, the college began to recruit postgraduates.

In 1984, the college set up a foreign affairs agency to expand its foreign exchange. Internationally, it has established inter school cooperation with universities in the United States, Russia, Japan, Australia, Ukraine, South Korea and other countries.

In 1985, all departments of the school moved to the west school, ending the 20-year pattern of running the East and West schools.

In 1998, with the approval of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, Siping Normal University was added as a master's degree awarding unit.

Jilin Normal University

On March 21, 2002, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Siping Normal University was renamed Jilin Normal University.

On December 1, 2004, the University was designated as the key university of Jilin Province by the provincial government.

On April 3, 2006, the University was approved by the Ministry of education to undertake the "Chinese government scholarship training program for international students in China", and it is also the first project university in Jilin Province. In the same month, he was selected as the National College Students' cultural quality education base.

In September 2008, Jilin Normal University ushered in its 50th anniversary.

In March 2011, Jilin Normal University obtained the approval of four disciplines of master of education, namely, subject teaching (Physical Education), subject education (ideological and Political Education), subject teaching (Chemistry) and subject teaching (Geography).

In December 2016, Jilin Normal University signed a comprehensive strategic cooperation framework agreement with Dongliao County People's government.
