Construction history
The May 4th Square was built in 1997, adjacent to Qingdao municipal government office building in the north and Fushan Bay in the south. It is located in the eastern New District, on the south side of the municipal government building. There are large lawns, music fountains, and the landmark sculpture "may wind". With spiral wind shape and fiery color, it fully reflects the anti imperialist and anti feudal patriotic tone and the rising national spirit of the May 4th movement power. There is a water fountain in the opposite sea, which can spray 100 meters high. The atmosphere of the whole scenic area is quiet, elegant, comfortable and peaceful. It has become one of the landmark landscapes of Qingdao in the new century.

About the author
Huang Zhen, a free artist, was born in 1965. The main works are: City Sculpture: wind in May (Qingdao May 4th Square theme sculpture), dawn (Suzhou central square sculpture), century movement (Chaohu century square sculpture), sunrise (Zhoushan City theme sculpture), etc. Sculpture works on the shelf: Eve, passing away, homage to Freud, sliding legs, etc. Performance art works: burying flowers, baking yams, happiness is tickling, Nightmare (ongoing implementation), altar (about to be implemented), etc. The second batch of distinguished professors of "Yangtze River scholars Award Program" of Shanghai Jiaotong University. In December 1988, he graduated from the Department of power mechanical engineering of Shanghai Jiaotong University with a doctorate in engineering. From October 1991 to April 1993, he did postdoctoral research in qunma University, Japan. From September 1995 to March 1996, he was a visiting professor at Waseda University, Japan. Engaged in engine combustion and emission control, laser flow field test and air pollution control research. A new concept of spray and combustion of fuel dissolved gas and a new theory of internal EGR control for harmful emissions from engines are proposed. He has presided over and completed a number of research projects such as National Natural Science Foundation of China and national key research projects in science and technology. He has won the cross century talents training fund of the State Education Commission and the Shanghai outstanding youth science and Technology Star Program Fund. It has won many provincial and ministerial awards for scientific and technological progress. More than 60 papers have been published.
