Historical development
Baiyun temple was built at the end of Ming Dynasty. It was rebuilt during the reign of emperor Xianfeng of Qing Dynasty and the period of the Republic of China. Xiaozhu mountain is often surrounded by clouds, so it is called baiyun temple.
In the past, baiyun temple was full of incense. There were three main halls, three East and west side halls, and three guest houses and three monk houses in front of the temple. There are one bell tower and one incense tower in the hospital. In the main hall, the Buddhas, Avalokitesvara and Manjusri are worshipped; in the East and west side halls, there are 17 statues of arhat, Thunder God, rain god and Mountain God. All the statues are made of gold.
Baiyun temple was the largest temple in Jiaodong area at that time. Due to the unprecedented prosperity of baiyun temple, Buddhism has a broad mass base in Huangdao, Jiaozhou, Jiaonan, Zhucheng and other surrounding counties and cities. Every year, there is an endless stream of pilgrims to worship Buddha on the 15th of the first month, the third of March, the ninth of September and other traditional festivals. During the cultural revolution, there was an upsurge of "running schools in the mountains". Zhushan middle school was built in Daanshan, and baiyun temple was completely destroyed.
Temple restoration
Due to the implementation of the policy of freedom of religious belief, many famous mountain temples have been restored and opened one after another, and religious activities have been carried out normally, attracting thousands of Chinese and foreign tourists and pilgrims. With the support of the Qingdao government and the funds raised by the faithful men and women and relevant enterprise resources, baiyun temple was restored in September 2009, and the opening ceremony and the Abbot's ascension ceremony were held on September 28 of the year when it was completed.
The old appearance reappeared, and the grand occasion was unprecedented. According to the agreement of the great sages in the Buddhist world, it was named Lingzhu mountain Bodhi temple. The total investment of baiyun temple reconstruction project is more than 100 million yuan, of which 40 million yuan is dedicated by believers, mainly for the construction of temples and Buddha statues.
The reconstruction project makes full use of the natural terrain of the mountain depression, and is designed on the basis of the original building: the whole temple is composed of one main axis and two auxiliary axes, and the courtyard is composed of three roads: the Middle Road, the East Road and the west road. The traditional pattern of "inner East, outer West" is formed, in which "inner" refers to the monks of the temple, and "outer" refers to the benefactor or resident of the temple.
The main body of Lingzhu mountain Bodhi Temple includes Shanmen hall, Tianwang hall, Daxiong hall, sutra Pavilion, Guanyin hall, relic tower, bell and Drum Tower, etc. the biggest highlight of the temple is the construction of a bronze statue of Guanyin (5.5 meters high, 2400 small hands) in Guanyin hall. The temple covers an area of 80 mu, with a construction area of 8000 square meters. After completion, it will become the largest temple in Qingdao.
On September 28, 2009, a grand ceremony will be held in lingzhushan Bodhi temple, including the completion of the temple, the opening of the Buddha statue and the elevation of the abbot.
