history
The ancients have a poem: "from the temple, the crows call the crowd at dusk, to visit the ancients and talk about general Wu. The remains of the general are not visible. A big tree supports the clouds. " This is the tree. Speaking of the ancient ginkgo trees in Tang Dynasty, there is an old legend. Mao Dun once wrote in his lovely hometown: "my hometown Wuzhen has a long history One of the historic sites in the town is ginkgo biloba from the Tang Dynasty, which still exists today. " Speaking of this ginkgo, another ancient legend. It is said that more than 1000 years ago, during the Yuanhe reign of emperor Xianzong of Tang Dynasty, there was a brave general named Wu and Zan. General Wu loves his country, loves the people, has excellent martial arts, and is brave and good at fighting. After the rebellion of the Tang Dynasty, the strength of the central government gradually weakened, and local officials became kings one after another. At that time, Li Qi, the governor of Zhejiang Province, also wanted to seek hegemony, so he raised his troops to rebel. As a result, the area was in chaos and the countryside was desolate, and the people could not live. The emperor ordered general Wu Qi and his deputy general Wu Qi to lead his troops to attack. The rebels were defeated and fled. General Wu leads his troops to the Bank of Chexi (today's Wuzhen city river). Li Qi suddenly puts up his exemption card and asks for a truce. General Wu encamped on the spot and stood by to fight again. That night, the rebels raided the camp. General Wu rose to fight, and Li Qi retreated. General Wu chased the Chexi River and jumped on the bridge. Just after crossing the stone bridge, he heard the horse hiss, his front hooves fell, and general Wu fell from his horse. It turns out that Li Qi set a trap in Qiaotu to frame general Wu. When general Wu fell into the trap, the rebels swarmed around and shot general Wu and his green dragon horse to death with random arrows. Wu Qi came, killed the rebels and buried general Wu and his horses by the Chexi river. Strange to say, on the same night, people saw that general Wu's new grave radiated a little bright red light, and there were bursts of horses neighing. The next day, a green gingko tree emerged from the grave and soon grew into a towering tree. This ginkgo never bears fruit. Everyone said that the ginkgo tree is the embodiment of general Wu. In order to pacify Li Qi's rebellion and save the people from the war, the people built a "general Wu Temple" next to the ginkgo tree in memory of this country loving general, and hung a plaque in the temple with the words "big tree belongs to general". The ancients wrote a poem praising: "the temple before Dashu, the battle bones of generals. The lamp is red, the ghost horse is hoarse, and the turtle is gathered in the pool. The wind and rain are lonely, loyal and strong. At that time, he was able to rein in the stone and resist the bandits. " This ancient ginkgo tree, which symbolizes loyalty to the country, has lived from the Tang Dynasty to modern times, and has a history of more than 1000 years.
