School history

In 1895, the Civil Engineering Department of Beiyang University was founded in the 21st year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty; in 1952, the Civil Engineering Department of Qingdao Institute of Technology (its predecessor was the Civil Engineering Department of Shandong University, which was founded in 1901); and in 1911, the civil Engineering Department and architectural art department of Suzhou Institute of technology of Jiangsu Province were founded（ The first architecture major in the history of China's junior college education was merged into Xi'an Institute of architecture and Engineering in the early stage of merging.

In 1956, when the third national department adjustment was carried out, the Department of civil engineering and the Department of architecture of Northeast University (the first undergraduate Department of architecture in the history of Chinese Higher Education) founded in 1923 and 1928, and the Department of civil engineering of Northwest Institute of technology established in 1938（ Northwest Institute of technology was formed at the beginning of the Anti Japanese war by the amalgamation of the Engineering College of Beiyang University, the Engineering College of Beiping University, the Engineering College of Northeast University and Jiaozuo Institute of technology, which moved to Shaanxi Province. It is the first architecture institution of higher learning with undergraduate education system in Northwest China.

In 1959, it was renamed Xi'an Institute of metallurgy.

In 1963, it was renamed Xi'an Institute of metallurgy and architecture.

In November 1981, with the approval of the State Council, the University became one of the first batch of doctoral and master degree awarding units in China.

On March 8, 1994, it was renamed Xi'an University of architecture and technology for the third time with the approval of the Ministry of education.

In 1998, the school was transferred to the people's Government of Shaanxi Province.

In 2010, it was rated as "National Graduate Employment typical experience university" by the Ministry of education; it was selected into the list of the first batch of "excellent engineer education and training plan" universities by the Ministry of education; it was rated as "National Engineering postgraduate education innovation university"; it was selected into the national characteristic key discipline project "construction university".

In September 2011, the Graduate School of Xi'an University of architecture and technology was established.

At the end of the same year, he was selected into the public postgraduate program of national construction high level university.

In November 2019, the traditional tile making skill inheritance base of Xi'an University of architecture and technology was selected into the list of excellent traditional Chinese culture inheritance bases of national colleges and universities in 2019.
