Yuanzhi University

Yuanzhi University (English: Yuan Ze University), formerly known as Yuanzhi Institute of technology, was founded by Xu Youxiang of Far East Group in 1989 and named Yuanzhi University in 1997. It is located at 135 Yuandong Road, Zhongli District, Taoyuan City, Taiwan Province, China. The current chairman is Xu Xudong. In 2014, Yuanzhi University ranked in the top 100 Asian universities of times higher education, and in 2012, it ranked 70th in the world in the top 100 universities under 50 years old of times higher education. From 2011 to 2012, Thames higher education ranked 350-400 in the world.

In 2010, times higher education, Yuanzhi University ranked among the top 200 in the world in the fields of electrical engineering, computer science and chemical engineering.

In 2008, it won the key subsidy of the Ministry of education's plan of developing world-class universities and top research centers. In October 2005, Yuanzhi was awarded one of the 12 top universities in Taiwan by the "Ministry of education" of the Taiwan authorities.

For ten years in a row, it has won the second place in Taiwan in the amount of subsidy from the Ministry of education's "award University Teaching Excellence Program" and the first university in Taiwan to win the "Taiwan Quality Award", the highest quality honor in Taiwan. Yuanzhi university is the first bilingual University in Taiwan, with the highest proportion of English Teaching in Taiwan.

According to the Academic Ranking of world universities in 2013, the computer science discipline of Yuanzhi University ranks 151-200 in the world.

Yuanzhi University ranked tenth in Taiwan in the second cheers magazine University Presidents' mutual evaluation survey.

Professor of finance group, School of management, Yuanzhi university has published papers in Journal of Financial Economics (JFE). JFE is one of the top four a + journals in the financial journals of the National Science Council of Taiwan (next only to Journal of Finance). In the past five years (2011-2015), only two papers of financial scholars in Taiwan have been accepted and published by JFE. Both of these papers were participated by the finance group teachers of Yuanzhi University.

In response to the era of globalization, Yuanzhi university has initiated bilingual teaching in Taiwan. More than one third of its courses are in English. After 2017, each college will add a small class or program of all English teaching elites: 50 students from the College of management (established in 2007), 40 students from the College of electrical communication (established in 2017), 30 students from the College of Engineering (established in 2017), 30 students from the College of information technology (established in 2017), and 30 students from the College of human resources and Social Sciences (established in 2017).

Yuan Chi University has been established as a sister school with many famous universities in Chinese mainland and Hongkong. Its sister schools in Chinese mainland include Nanjing University, Zhongshan University, Xiamen University, Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin Institute of Technology, and so on. The sister school in Hong Kong is the City University of Hong Kong. Liu Zunyi, former president of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, is a member of the Council of Yuanzhi University. He once participated in the founding process of Yuanzhi University, and now promotes close exchanges between Yuanzhi University and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Yuanzhi University's campus buildings are mostly built with clear water construction method, each with its own characteristics. The buildings are honored with the 2008 Taiwan Architecture Award.

Historical evolution

During the period of Technical College

In April 1987, the Preparatory Office of Yuanzhi Institute of technology was established.

In April 1989, Yuanzhi Institute of technology was established. The departments of chemical engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, information engineering and industrial engineering were established.

In March 1990, the master's class was established.

In November 1991, the doctoral program was established.

In March 1993, the Department of enterprise management and the Department of information management were established.

In March 1994, the Department of information communication technology and the Department of finance were established.

In January 1995, the Department of international business and the Department of accounting were established.

In January 1996, the Department of manufacturing engineering and management technology, the Department of business management technology and the Department of information management technology were established; in September, the information integration of student ID cards was carried out; in December, the front-end assignment for students in Colleges and universities was initiated.

In February 1997, the Department of applied foreign languages was established; in July 1997, it was transformed into a tertiary institution and named Yuanzhi University. Meanwhile, the Department of information communication technology was renamed the Department of information communication.

University period

In February 1998, the Department of Chinese language was established.

In February 1999, a two-year on-the-job training course was set up; in September, the first issue of Yuanzhi short message, an electronic school journal, was issued.

In August 2000, the Department of Sociology (now the Department of social and Policy Sciences) was established.

In August 2001, the Department of communication engineering was established.

In September 2006, the Department of electrical engineering, Department of communication engineering, Institute of Optoelectronic Engineering and Department of manufacturing and engineering technology were established.

In April 2008, it won the certification of China Institute of Engineering Education (IEET), and in August, it set up the international and cross-strait affairs office.

"Yuan": in the book of changes, "Yuan" is the first of the four virtues of "yuan, Heng, Li and Zhen", and "yuan is the beginning of goodness". Therefore, "goodness" is regarded as the beginning of all implementation, and there is no future without disadvantage. "Yuan" also means "Yuan wisdom".

"Big": the word "Yuan" means "big". The zigzag of "Yuan" is similar to the word "big". The meaning of "Yuan" is rich in the meaning of "University", which also represents Yuanzhi's wish and vision to become a first-class university.

"Engineering": Yuanzhi was founded in the Institute of technology. To cultivate senior engineers is the initial goal of the school. The shape of "Gong" is like a person on the left and right lifting his arms to carry things together, which symbolizes that Yuanzhi will shoulder the mission of the times of promoting education, serving the country and enlightening all living beings.

Round shape: the shape of many "elements" in the universe is round, which also symbolizes perfection and integration. The way of university is to be perfect. Besides the palace of knowledge, learning how to be a person and do things is also very important, which is a kind of harmony.

Left and right flowers: it symbolizes the wisdom of the Yuan Dynasty, the cultivation of talents for the country, and the abundance of peaches and plums in the world.
