Historical evolution

In November 1952, the Government Affairs Council of the Central People's Government approved the establishment of Beijing Petroleum Institute.

In 1953, in order to support the economic construction and the development of petroleum industry in New China, Beijing Institute of petroleum, the first Petroleum University in New China, was formally established, which is the predecessor of China University of petroleum.

In 1960, it became one of the 64 "national key universities" established by the State Council.

Due to the impact of the cultural revolution, the school moved to Dongying, Shandong Province in 1969 and changed its name to East China Petroleum Institute. At that time, all the school buildings were only "dry base" earth houses with an area of 40000 square meters, without laboratories, libraries and sports grounds. In the face of difficulties, teachers and students are self reliant and hard-working, and they have rebuilt the school on the saline beach.

In June 1981, the graduate department was established in the original campus of Beijing Institute of petroleum.

In 1988, it was renamed "University of petroleum" and its headquarters is located in Beijing, which is composed of two parts: University of Petroleum (Beijing) and University of Petroleum (East China); University of Petroleum (Beijing) resumed recruiting undergraduates nationwide in 1989.

In 1997, the University officially entered the first batch of key construction institutions of higher learning in the national "211 Project".

In 2000, the school was under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of education of China National Petroleum Corporation. In June of the same year, the school established a graduate school.

In 2001, five secondary disciplines, including mineral survey and exploration, oil and gas well engineering, oil and gas field development engineering, oil and gas storage and transportation engineering, and chemical technology, were evaluated as national key disciplines.

In 2003, the Ministry of education signed an agreement with CNPC, Sinopec and CNOOC to build a University of petroleum.

In January 2005, the University of petroleum changed its name to "China University of petroleum", and the University of Petroleum (Beijing) also changed its name to "China University of Petroleum (Beijing)".

In 2006, the University passed the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education with excellent results; in the same year, the "oil and gas resources exploration and development and transformation innovation platform project" entered the "National 985 engineering advantage discipline innovation platform".

In 2007, "industrial catalysis" discipline and "Earth exploration and information technology" discipline were approved as national key (cultivation) disciplines, with outstanding advantages in the field of petroleum and petrochemical.

In 2010, it was rated as "National Graduate Employment typical experience university" by the Ministry of education.

In 2014, the University's scientific research achievement "new technology of producing high quality clean gasoline by compound ionic liquid C4 alkylation" was selected as "top ten scientific and technological progress of Chinese universities".

In May 2014, the Ministry of education signed an agreement with five major energy enterprise groups, including China National Petroleum Corporation, China Petrochemical Corporation, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, Shenhua Group Co., Ltd. and Shaanxi Yanchang Petroleum (Group) Co., Ltd., to jointly build China University of Petroleum (including China University of Petroleum (Beijing) and China University of Petroleum (East China)) Signed in writing.

In January 2015, the unveiling ceremony of Beijing Institute of engineers and national demonstration joint training base of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) was held in Drilling Engineering Technology Research Institute of CNPC.

In December, the opening ceremony of Karamay campus of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) was held in Urumqi.

In September 2017, China University of Petroleum (Beijing) was selected into the list of national "double first-class" world-class discipline construction universities.

In March 2018, the school was selected into the first batch of "new engineering" research and practice projects of the Ministry of education. In September, the world energy University Alliance was inaugurated in China University of Petroleum (Beijing). In December, the school of artificial intelligence of China University of Petroleum (Beijing) was established.

In February 2019, the school became the first batch of "Beijing Intellectual Property demonstration units"

As of June 2014, the university has 11 doctoral disciplines, 2 doctoral disciplines, 3 independent doctoral disciplines, a total of 45 doctoral disciplines; 33 master disciplines, 5 Master disciplines, a total of 148 master disciplines. It has the right to confer 6 kinds of master's degree, including master of Engineering (20 engineering fields), master of Business Administration (MBA), master of accounting, master of translation, master of Finance and master of Chinese international education. The discipline layout covers philosophy, classics, law, education, arts, science, engineering and management. Construction of postdoctoral mobile station (workstation)

In July 1988, China University of Petroleum (Beijing) was approved by the national post doctoral Management Committee as the station building unit, and set up two post doctoral research mobile stations of "geological resources and geological engineering" and "chemical engineering and technology"; in February 1989, the post doctoral research mobile station of "oil and gas engineering" was added; in October 2003, the post doctoral research mobile station of "oil and gas engineering" was added "Geology" postdoctoral research mobile station; in September 2009, it added "Mechanical Engineering", "power engineering and Engineering Thermophysics" two postdoctoral research mobile stations; in September 2012, it added "Chemistry", "materials science and Engineering", "safety science and Engineering", "management science and Engineering" four postdoctoral research mobile stations; in September 2014, it added "Mechanics" postdoctoral research mobile station Yanliu power station.
