Historical evolution
Looking at the development history of Guangzhou Daily, it can be regarded as several tribulations. It has stopped publication twice and resumed publication twice. Now it has developed into a national newspaper. Shortly after the liberation of Guangzhou, the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee assumed to run organ newspapers to guide the work of the whole city, but due to the lack of skilled newspaper operators
And printing equipment. In May 1952, the Social Committee of Lianhe daily, sponsored by various democratic parties in South China, asked the municipal Party committee to take over the newspaper, and the municipal Party committee accepted their proposal. Lianhe daily had a rotary press which was produced by the more advanced duples factory in the United States at that time. There were 151 newspaper staff, including many skilled newspaper operators. In addition, the municipal Party committee transferred some cadres from the municipal units, and 32 Xingmei daily staff from the South China branch of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. Preparations for the publication of the report began on October 17. On November 15, the committee, as the leading body of the newspaper, was formally established. In mid November, Ye Jianying, then mayor of Guangzhou, asked Chairman Mao Zedong to write a newspaper headline. After just over a month's preparation, Guangzhou Daily was officially published on December 1. It is a large-scale comprehensive daily with four opposite editions.
Due to the shortage of paper supply, the Propaganda Department of the South China branch of the CPC Central Committee decided that the publication of Guangzhou Daily would be closed in January 1955 and merged into Nanfang Daily. Nanfang Daily was the organ newspaper of South China branch of the CPC Central Committee at that time. Due to the limitation of division of labor and layout, it was unable to undertake the task of propaganda and reporting and guiding the work of Guangzhou. The Guangzhou municipal Party committee of the CPC asked for the resumption of Guangzhou Daily. With the consent of the Guangdong provincial Party committee, Guangzhou Daily officially resumed publication on June 15, 1958, and is still a four edition comprehensive large-scale daily. In the year of its resumption, Guangzhou Daily had an average daily circulation of 55000 copies.
On February 1, 1961, Guangzhou Daily and Yangcheng Evening News merged. After the merger of the two newspapers, due to the limitation of the layout, it is difficult for the newspapers to carry forward the characteristics of the evening paper, and they can not afford the task of guiding the work of Guangzhou. Later, the Central South Bureau decided that Guangzhou Daily would resume publication on July 1, 1965, and Yangcheng Evening News would be led by the Central South Bureau.
After the resumption of Guangzhou Daily, its quality gradually improved, but soon the "Cultural Revolution" began, which brought serious disaster to the newspaper. On May 16, 1967, the newspaper was closed by some student mass organizations. On September 1, 1968, Guangzhou Daily was merged into Nanfang Daily, and most of its business backbones were transferred to cadre schools. It was not until February 26, 1972 that the publication of Guangzhou Daily was resumed under the instruction of Guangdong Revolutionary Committee. In the early stage, four tabloids were published in four editions, and they were published in two days. Later, the CPC Guangzhou Municipal Committee decided to change the name of Guangzhou Daily and use Chairman Mao's handwritten header from August 1 of that year. On August 1, 1973, it was restored to be a four page newspaper. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Guangzhou Daily has developed rapidly and greatly. It has increased its fixed assets, updated its printing equipment, expanded its accumulation, increased its circulation, and successively established a number of sub newspapers. Since January 1987, Guangzhou Daily has taken the lead in changing its 4-page folio to 8-page folio among provincial and municipal newspapers in China. In September 1987, Guangzhou Daily changed its 8-page folio and was rated as one of the ten major events in the construction of spiritual civilization in Guangzhou.
Since the reform and opening up, Guangzhou Daily, which is in the forefront of reform and opening up, has created many miracles in China's newspaper market: it first expanded from four editions to eight editions in the national local newspapers, with an average of 60 editions per day. They also learned from the international practice and took the lead in launching multiple newspapers in China.
