Fujian road bridge, also known as "laozhaqiao", is located on the Suzhou River. It is a channel connecting Huangpu District and Jing'an District in Shanghai, China

Fujian Road and bridge was built in 1946

Fujian Road and Bridge starts from the intersection of Tiantong Road, Fujian north road, Jing'an District in the north and ends at the intersection of Fujian Middle Road, Beijing East Road, Huangpu District in the south

Historical evolution

In 1946, the old gate bridge, built in June 1885, was demolished by the Nanjing National Government because of serious damage. In the same year, Fujian Road and bridge was built, which is a wooden bridge with a length of 61.6 meters

.

In 1968, Fujian lumuqiao was demolished and rebuilt. After reconstruction, Fujian lumuqiao is a 71.4m long and 11.58m wide reinforced concrete double curved arch bridge

The width of the roadway is 8.1 meters, and the width of the sidewalks on both sides is 1.74 meters. The lower structure of the bridge body is reinforced by the revetments on both sides to form a bridge abutment, and the middle part is a reinforced concrete cast-in-place pile pier. The main bridge has 4 holes (3 holes in the river), the span combination is 8.54 m + 8 m + 44 m + 8 m, the beam bottom elevation is 6.75 m, and the main hole is 44.0 M. In addition to the extra spring tide, the bridge is navigable all the year round.

Bridge location

Fujian Road and bridge is located in Shanghai, China, on the river course of Suzhou River. It is 430 meters away from Henan Road and Bridge in the downstream of the river course in the East and 250 meters away from Zhejiang Road and Bridge in the upstream of the river course in the West. The bridge runs in a north-south direction, starting from Tiantong Road intersection of Fujian north road in Jing'an District in the north and ending at Fujian Middle Road intersection of Beijing East Road in Huangpu District in the south

The bridge deck of Fujian Road and bridge is a vehicle and pedestrian passageway, with vehicles passing in the middle lane and pedestrian and bicycle passageways on both sides. There are two motor vehicle lanes and two non motor vehicle lanes in total

On both sides of the Strait, it crosses the North Suzhou Road and the south Suzhou Road, forming an "Overpass" with upper and lower branches

Technical problems

In 2001, Fujian Road and bridge was rebuilt. Due to the obstruction of disorderly built residential buildings near North Suzhou Road and Tiantong Road, there is no road to drive, which makes the reconstruction of Fujian Road and bridge not only need to rebuild the bridge itself, but also need to transform the relevant plots on both sides. Fujian Road and bridge reconstruction time has been lengthened

Cultural characteristics

Bridge naming

In 1570, the government ordered the construction of Wusong River stone gate near the present Fujian Road and bridge to prevent the tide from flowing back. After the stone gate was abolished, it was moved to jinjiawan, where the name of the old gate was left. Therefore, Fujian Road and bridge is also called laozha bridge

Design style

Fujian Road and bridge body is extracted from the surrounding environment and adopts warm yellow tone. The lamp posts on the bridge deck are decorated in Baroque form, with arc-shaped curve as the main part, and copper tone as the matching color, which sets off the elegant and romantic atmosphere. The balustrade on the bridge deck is made up of classical decorated cast iron and classical columns. European classical style relief murals are carved on the balustrade columns to make it more decorative

 

. Fujian Road and bridge adopts light gray granite bridge guardrail, the sidewalks on both sides of the bridge are paved with the same kind of granite, and the guardrail of the bridge is engraved with the word "Fujian Road and bridge"
