Historical evolution

The predecessor of Nanjing Normal University for special education is Nanjing Normal School for special education, the first special education normal school in New China founded by the Ministry of education in 1982. At that time, the schooling system of the school was four years, and the educational background was secondary normal school. It was oriented to recruit new junior high school graduates nationwide.

In 1997, the school was put under the management of Jiangsu provincial government by the Ministry of education. In the same year, the school began to train five-year college students.

In 2002, the school was upgraded to Nanjing vocational and Technical College of special education, recruiting three-year high school graduates.

In 2009, the school became a joint construction unit of China Disabled Persons' Federation and Jiangsu Provincial People's government.

In 2013, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Nanjing Normal University for special education was established.

In 2015, the University was officially upgraded to an ordinary undergraduate university and started running undergraduate schools.

Construction achievements

As of December 2015, 112 Monographs (teaching materials) have been published by teachers, and 1882 papers have been published in academic journals at or above the provincial level, including 404 in Chinese core journals and 167 in CSSCI. Collection resources

As of December 2015, the school library has collected more than 600000 paper books, 11 digital resource databases, and nearly 1.4 million e-books. The collection structure is dominated by special education and disabled people's career and normal humanities. Among them, Braille books are the first in China's universities.

The school has built the China Special Education Museum, the first special history museum of education in China, with a collection of more than 2000 special education objects and documents.

Modern special education

The journal was jointly sponsored by Nanjing Normal University of special education and Jiangsu Education Press on June 30, 2014. It has two editions: comprehensive edition and higher education edition. Nanjing Normal University of special education is responsible for hosting Modern Special Education (Higher Education). Its main columns are special education theory research, teacher education research, special children development research, education and rehabilitation, curriculum and teaching, and higher education Special education research, inclusive education, comparative study of special education, feature, academic debate, thematic research, etc.

Modern special education is a bimonthly magazine with 24 issues per year. The Higher Education Edition (next month) and the Comprehensive Edition (next month) have 12 issues each.
