Before the merger
Northwest Agricultural University
The predecessor is the national northwest agricultural and Forestry College, founded in 1934. In the autumn of 1932, Yu Youren and others served as the Preparatory Committee. In December of the same year, the committee was renamed as the Preparatory Committee for the construction of northwest agriculture and Forestry College. Yu Youren, Zhang Ji and Dai Jitao were jointly elected as the Standing Committee, and Zhu Jiahua, Yang Hucheng, shaolizi and Xin Shuqi were the preparatory committee members. In March 1933, the Preparatory Committee jointly recommended Mr. Yu Youren as the president of the national northwest agricultural and Forestry College. On April 20, 1934, the foundation of the 7-storey teaching building of the national northwest agricultural and Forestry College was laid, marking the establishment of the first Agricultural University in Northwest China. In July 1936, the Preparatory Committee finished its work and Xin Shuzhi was appointed president.
In July 1938, by the order of the Ministry of education, it merged with the Agricultural College of national northwest United University and the animal husbandry department of Agricultural College of Henan University to establish the national Northwest Agricultural College. After liberation, the national Northwest Agricultural College was renamed Northwest Agricultural College. On May 20, 1949, General Wang Zhen led his troops to liberate martial arts, and the school returned to the embrace of the people. In 1985, with the approval of the former Ministry of agriculture, animal husbandry and fisheries, the University changed its name to Northwest Agricultural University. It was incorporated into Northwest A & F University in September 1999.
Northwest Forestry College
Its predecessor was the forest Department of Northwest Agricultural College, which was founded in 1934. In 1979, it was separated from Northwest Agricultural College and established Northwest Forestry College, under the dual leadership of the Ministry of forestry and Shaanxi Province, with the Ministry of forestry as the main body. It was incorporated into Northwest A & F University in September 1999.
Institute of soil and water conservation, Ministry of water resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences
In 1954, the Chinese Academy of Sciences decided to prepare for the establishment of Northwest Institute of agricultural biology. In 1955, it was named Northwest Institute of agricultural biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and was successively renamed Northwest Institute of biological soil, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Northwest Institute of soil and water conservation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Northwest Institute of soil and water conservation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Northwest Institute of soil and water conservation, Ministry of water resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences.
In 1995, it was renamed Institute of soil and water conservation, Ministry of water resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1998, it was identified as one of the first batch of national knowledge innovation project pilot units by the Chinese Academy of Sciences. It was incorporated into Northwest A & F University in September 1999.
Northwest Institute of water resources, Ministry of water resources
In 1940, Northwest Agricultural College and the central hydraulic experimental Institute (later known as the central water conservancy experimental Office) jointly established the Wugong hydraulic laboratory. In 1952, it was expanded into northwest hydraulic laboratory. Later, it was renamed as northwest water conservancy research institute, Shaanxi water conservancy research institute, northwest water conservancy Research Institute of Ministry of water resources, Shaanxi water conservancy research institute and northwest water conservancy Research Institute of Ministry of water resources. It was incorporated into Northwest A & F University in September 1999.
Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences
Its predecessor was the Northwest Institute of Agricultural Sciences, which was established by the Ministry of agriculture and forestry of the northwest military and political Commission in 1952. In 1954, it was under the Ministry of agriculture. In 1958, under the dual leadership of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences and Shaanxi Provincial Department of agriculture and forestry, it was renamed Shaanxi Branch of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. In 1973, it was under the leadership of Shaanxi Provincial Department of agriculture and animal husbandry and renamed Shaanxi Academy of agriculture and Forestry Sciences. It was named Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences in 1983. It was incorporated into Northwest A & F University in September 1999.
Shaanxi Forestry Research Institute
Its predecessor is Shaanxi Forestry Research Institute, which was established in 1958 and is a professional research institute of Shaanxi Branch of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences. In 1980, it was separated from Shaanxi Academy of agriculture and Forestry Sciences and established Shaanxi Forestry Research Institute under the leadership of Shaanxi Forestry Department. In 1998, it was renamed Shaanxi Academy of Forestry Sciences. It was incorporated into Northwest A & F University in September 1999.
Northwest Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shaanxi Province
Its predecessor is the Northwest Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences. In July 1970, it was put under the management of Shaanxi Province. In 1982, it was renamed Northwest Institute of Botany. In 1991, the dual leadership system of Shaanxi Province and the Chinese Academy of Sciences was implemented, and it was renamed "Northwest Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shaanxi Province". It was incorporated into Northwest A & F University in September 1999.
After the merger
On September 11, 1999, the former Northwest Agricultural University, Northwest Forestry College, Institute of soil and water conservation of the Ministry of water resources of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Northwest Institute of water conservancy of the Ministry of water resources, Shaanxi Academy of Agricultural Sciences, Shaanxi Academy of Forestry Sciences and Northwest Institute of Botany of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, which coexisted in Yangling, Shaanxi Province, were merged to form Northwest A & F University. In August 2003, the Ministry of Education approved the school to set up a graduate school.
In June 2004, it entered the national "985 Project" construction sequence.
In June 2007, the Ministry of Education officially approved the establishment of the graduate school. Professor Sun Qixin, the president of the school, is also the president of the graduate school. In September, the first batch of universities selected for the implementation of the National College Students' innovative experiment plan.
In 2009, the Ministry of education and the Ministry of agriculture jointly established Northwest A & F University.
In 2010, the Ministry of education and the State Forestry Administration jointly established Northwest A & F University.
In September 2012, the first batch of universities were selected into the National College Students' innovation and entrepreneurship training program.
In September 2017, Northwest A & F University was selected as the national "double first-class" (world-class university and first-class discipline) construction university.
On May 20, 2020, the College of comprehensive quality education of Northwest A & F University was established.
