Wuzhen is known as "one view, two pagodas, nine temples and thirteen nunneries". One of the two pagodas is bailianta temple. It echoes the Shousheng Pagoda in dongzha. These two pagodas are also the treasures of the local people.
Bailian tower was built in the Northern Song Dynasty. Now it is the tallest building in Wuzhen, with seven levels of height, but it can only go up to the third floor. On one side of Tashan, you can see the rolling Grand Canal, and on the other side, you can see the flowing water of Wuzhen small bridge. At night, the tower is illuminated by lights, so it is beautiful.
Bailianta Temple
In 2005, Bailian tower was rebuilt on the Huanhe island by xizha Grand Canal.
At present, the Bailian tower is seven steps high, 51.75 meters high, which is the highest building in Wuzhen. Under the tower, there is an octagonal Shenglian square, in which there is a free pond, and on the east side of the river bank there is a stone boat. When you come to Wuzhen by boat from the canal, you can see the magnificent posture of Bailian tower from a distance, and you know that Wuzhen has arrived.
brief introduction
Bailian pagoda belongs to the pavilion type Pagoda with brick and wood mixed structure, which was popular in Jiangsu and Zhejiang during the song and Yuan Dynasties. Throughout the pagoda, its appearance is shuttle shaped. In fact, the plane of the pagoda is square. The base of the pagoda is also a square of 24 by 24 meters, and the internal ground is paved with square bricks.
From the first floor to the inside, the whole tower gradually collapses. You can have a panoramic view of the canal and Wuzhen. At night, the tower is illuminated by the light. It is beautiful.
History: the original bailianta temple is nine Bay, three deep, and its main hall is built on a platform more than two meters high, which is very magnificent. According to the town records, Zhang Jun's original ancestral hall was also built in the original Bailian pagoda temple. Later, after Qin Hui's case, Zhang Jun was implicated and the ancestral hall was abandoned.
The original Bailian pagoda, with a height of seven levels and 16 Zhang, was destroyed in the war between Zhu Yuanzhang and Zhang Shicheng in Wuzhen in the late Yuan Dynasty. After several times of reconstruction, during the Xianfeng Period, when the British and French allied forces invaded Beijing (i.e. the change of Gengshen), the temple was destroyed by war, and the tower was more inclined.
In 1868, on June 24 of the lunar calendar, it collapsed and survived for more than 760 years.
During the reign of Guangxu, many monks finally built the mountain gate, front hall, back hall and sengliao in 1892. In the 29th year of Guangxu (1903), another monk raised money and cast a big bell, which weighed a thousand jin. But who raised money to build the big bell is not recorded in the town annals.
In the late period of the Republic of China, some military officers once changed Bailian temple into a theater.
guide
Wuzhen is known as "one view, two pagodas, nine temples and thirteen nunneries". One view refers to dongzha's Xiuzhen view, and one of the two pagodas is bailianta temple.
Wuzhen's Buddhism was introduced earlier, and a certain scale of temple buildings appeared in Nanliang period. In Wuzhen's history, there were 53 temples, nunneries, temples and ancestral halls.
Bailian pagoda was originally called Jinlian pagoda courtyard and later called Bailian pagoda temple. It was built in the Chongning period of the Northern Song Dynasty (1102-1106). It was originally located in the north of shijingtang and the west of Tianjing Lane in Wuzhen. Local people like to call it Xibao pagoda. This is because it echoes the Shousheng Pagoda in dongzha, so there is a saying of East-West Pagoda in Wuzhen.
