Hailu island is located in the northern part of Chengshantou in Weihai, Shandong Province. Because there are many seagulls on the island, and the local people call seagulls sea cats, so Hailu island is also called sea Cat Island.

Hailu island is well protected and is the kingdom of seabirds. Every spring when Hibiscus is in full bloom, egrets, which are the second class protected animals of the state, come here not far away to build nests, lay eggs and hatch birds, and then fly away with their children in autumn. From April to June every year, thousands of seagulls come here to roost and lay eggs, and there are countless bird nests in the crevices. In addition, Hailu island is also a kingdom of flowers and plants. The island is full of Hibiscus, reeds and wild jujube trees. White birds, red flowers and waves make it an island scenery.

Island introduction

There is a very unique island in the sea northwest of Rongcheng mountain, Weihai City, Shandong Province. Across the sea, there are cliffs and steep walls, and there are lots of flowers. Groups of seagulls come and go. The whole island looks like a thin donkey lying in the sea, so it is named Hailu island. Because there are many seagulls on the island, and the local people call seagulls sea cats, so Hailu island is also called sea Cat Island.

The total investment of Hailu Island Scenic Spot is 50 million yuan. There are tourist bird watching platform, Diaoyutai, mountain crossing tunnel, Panshan path and Tingtao Pavilion on the island. There are lots of Hibiscus bushes, reeds and wild jujube trees on the island. Every spring and summer when Hibiscus is in full bloom, seabirds hatch and breed here. Hailu island is 1600 meters away from the coast, covering an area of 1312 square meters. According to the legend, Erlang God once traveled to Chengshan to fill the sea. When he was walking between the two sides, he heard the sound of donkeys in the East China Sea and chickens on the West Bank. In his surprise, the shoulder pole broke off and the basket fell into the sea. So he turned into two islands. Since then, people have called the East Island Hailu island and the West Island Jiming island. Between the two islands, there is a towering stone column several feet high, which is called "shoulder pole stone". Although it is a myth, the natural shape of the two islands also matches the myth.

Legend of scenic spot

According to legend, at that time, Erlang God, at the order of the Jade Emperor, undertook mountain reclamation and built Tokyo. A hundred birds were jubilant and filled with stones. One day, Erlang God carried two big mountains to the top of Chengshan mountain. Suddenly, he heard the howling of donkeys in the East China Sea and the crowing of chickens on the west coast. The two big mountains fell into the sea and turned into two islands, Hailu island in the East and Jiming island in the West. The two broken poles were turned into two stone pillars tens of feet high, one standing behind Jiming island and the other planted behind Hailu island. The birds who follow Erlang God to fill the sea with stones have become the masters of the island's fairy mountains. They live and reproduce year after year, and now there are hundreds of thousands of gulls and herons blocking the sky. Therefore, Hailu island is also known as the seagull kingdom.

When Zhu Bajie was carrying a chicken and donkey across the sea with a flat sheet, he accidentally dropped them into the sea and turned them into Jiming island and Hailu island.
