Xiangyang Museum, located at No.1, North Street, Xiangcheng District, Xiangyang City, Hubei Province, was founded in 1975. It was moved to the current site on December 28, 2008 and officially opened to the public free of charge.
Xiangyang Museum covers an area of 4202 square meters, building area of 9739 square meters, exhibition area of 3200 square meters, warehouse area of 1200 square meters. Based on the basic display and temporary display, the collection of cultural relics includes gold and silver, bronze, ceramics, jade, lacquer wood, ancient calligraphy and paintings, epitaphs, stone carvings and wood carvings.
Xiangyang museum is a patriotic education base in Hubei Province. In April 2013, it was rated as a national second-class Museum by the State Administration of cultural relics.
Development history
Xiangyang Museum, formerly known as the "Xiangyang District Working Group of Hubei Provincial Culture and history research Museum" established in April 1951, is in charge of Longzhong. It has a collection of more than 40000 ancient books and hundreds of cultural relics. A temporary exhibition room is set up in qiaolou, Xiangyang.
On April 28, 1975, Xiangyang regional cultural museum was established to perform the functions of Museum, library and children's library.
In July 1977, the "Xiangyang regional museum" was officially established, which is responsible for the cultural and museum business in the whole region. The office and warehouse are located in qiaolou.
In August 1983, Xiangyang District and Xiangfan City were merged and renamed "Xiangfan City Museum", with the same working place.
In July 1996, after the study of the former Xiangfan Municipal Bureau of culture, the cadres and staff of the former Xiangfan Museum, the municipal cultural relics department and the municipal mass art museum were selected to form the Xiangfan archaeological team, which is located in the fourth living area of the municipal government, 73 Jingzhou street, Xiangcheng District;
In August 1998, all the staff of Xiangfan archaeological team were included in the series compiled by Xiangfan Museum.
In June 2006, Xiangfan Museum added the sign of "Xiangfan Institute of cultural relics and Archaeology";
In January 2007, the office and historical storehouse of the Archaeological Institute were moved to the former city cinema office area, No. 23, Xiaojing lane, Xiangcheng District.
In December 2008, Xiangfan Museum moved to Zhaoming terrace, No.1, North Street, Xiangcheng District, and officially opened to the public free of charge.
In November 2010, the State Council approved that Xiangfan City was renamed Xiangyang City, and its name was changed to "Xiangyang Museum" and "Xiangyang Institute of cultural relics and Archaeology".
In December 2010, Xiangyang Museum added the sign of "Xiangyang cultural relics restoration center".
In April 2013, it was rated as a national second-class Museum by the State Administration of cultural relics.

Xiangyang Museum has a display area of nearly 2000 square meters, displaying more than 800 pieces (sets) of cultural relics in various periods. The basic display is Xiangyang ancient history and culture exhibition with the theme of "listening to the sound of civilization, tasting the charm of the north and the South". It is divided into five units: prehistoric period, pre Qin period, Qin and Han period, Three Kingdoms, two Jin, southern and Northern Dynasties period, Sui and Tang Dynasties to Ming and Qing Dynasties, which comprehensively introduces the history of Xiangyang The development of culture.

Xiangfan in prehistoric period (200000 years ago - 21st century BC)
More than 80 treasures and cultural relics are displayed in this unit. In the exhibition, the geographical environment map of Diaolongbei site, the general layout of the site, the main harvest statistics table of Diaolongbei excavation, and the cultural characteristics table and exhibits of each period of Diaolongbei culture are shown.

Xiangfan in the pre Qin period (21st century bc-221 BC)
More than 500 pieces of cultural relics in this unit provide first-hand historical materials for the study of Xiangfan history, Chu culture and Central Plains culture, and evidence that Xiangfan has always been a place for military strategists.

Xiangfan in Qin and Han Dynasties (221 BC-220 AD)
Nearly 100 cultural relics are on display in this unit. Xiangyang drum arena unearthed in the Western Han Dynasty painted bird cloud pattern pottery tripod, pot, box two, is the Western Han Dynasty painted pottery treasures; unearthed in the Eastern Han Dynasty green glazed red pottery building in Xiangyang, reflects the real style of the Han Dynasty architecture.

Xiangfan in Three Kingdoms, two Jin Dynasties and southern and Northern Dynasties (220-581)
The unit displays 50 precious cultural relics. Celadon pot, pot, yellow glaze, celadon tiger and other exquisite porcelain. In the northern and Southern Dynasties, there were pottery figurines, such as Wen Shi Figurine, holding fan Figurine, holding object Figurine, kneeling down Figurine, small crown official Figurine, armored warrior Figurine, etc.

Collection
Xiangyang Museum has collected more than 30000 pieces (sets) of cultural relics of different ages and categories through archaeological excavation, social donation, folk collection, receiving and transferring, and allocation. There are 5189 precious cultural relics above grade III, including 102 grade I cultural relics, 378 grade II cultural relics, and 4709 grade III cultural relics. The collection of cultural relics includes gold and silver, bronze, ceramics, jade, lacquer and wood, ancient calligraphy and paintings, epitaphs, stone and wood carvings, etc.
Activity construction
In 2014, Xiangyang museum used the "May 18 International Museum Day", "China Cultural Heritage Day" and "December 4 National Constitution Day" to publicize and provide legal advice on laws and regulations such as cultural relics protection.
On May 16, 2014, Xiangyang Museum and Zhaoming community jointly held the listing ceremony of "cultural co construction station", and made display boards and presented books for it;
On December 1, 2014, in cooperation with Xiangyang team of "wheat field plan", a museum into campus activity was carried out in Huangtan primary school, Changping Town, Nanzhang county.
On June 2, 2015, Xiangyang City Museum, Gucheng County Museum and Nanzhang County Museum jointly selected exhibits, and jointly produced and arranged with Suizhou Huaxia Museum "enjoy the kingdom of heaven - Xiangyang southern and Northern Dynasties brick portrait Exhibition" in the temporary exhibition hall of "Opium War Museum" in Humen Town, Dongguan City.

In 2014, Xiangyang Museum received more than 20 groups of domestic and international experts and scholars from many academic institutions, including the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Chinese Buddhist Culture Research Association, the Palace Museum, the National Museum of China, Peking University, Wuhan University, Taiwan University, Columbia University of the United States, Kyoto University of Japan, and carried out academic exchanges.
1. With Kyoto University and Wuhan University of Japan, we have carried out the analysis and detection of Buddhist cultural relics in the tombs of the Three Kingdoms in Fancheng and the scientific and technological cooperation research on the protection of bronzes;

3. In cooperation with the school of archaeology, culture and Museum of Peking University, the research and experiment on rust removal and sealing of iron mirrors unearthed from caiyue Tomb of the Three Kingdoms in Fancheng have been carried out successfully;

In cooperation with the Institute of Archaeology of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Municipal Institute of archaeology has undertaken the sub topics of multidisciplinary research and protection of bronze wares in Xiangyang area during the two Zhou period (subject No. 2013ybht019), comprehensive research on bronze wares in Xiangyang area during the two Zhou period, and chronology and combination research on bronze wares in Xiangyang area during the Shang and Zhou dynasties.

Opening Hours
9:00-17:00 every Tuesday to Sunday (visitors stop entering at 16:00, leave at 16:30 and the exhibition hall is cleared);
The closing time is Monday every week (in case of national legal holidays, it will be closed on the first working day after the holidays) and the whole day of new year's Eve. Special closing days will be announced separately.
