Located at the northern foot of Lushan Mountain, the Xilin Temple of Lushan Mountain was built in the second year of Taihe in the Eastern Jin Dynasty (366 AD) and was founded by Tao fan, the Minister of Taifu. It is the first temple in the northern mountain of Lushan Mountain. At the beginning, it was a thatched cottage in Shanzhu tanjie, and after his death, Huiyong inherited his profession. In the second year of the Jin Dynasty, Tao fan, the governor of Jiangzhou, established the temple and named it Xilin temple. From the Jin Dynasty to the Tang Dynasty, it was at its peak. The Yuan Dynasty was burned by soldiers, and the Ming Dynasty was repaired and destroyed again. Now the temple has been rebuilt in recent years. The temple is spacious, the Buddha statue is tall, the scale is not inferior to the original, unique and solemn. In the temple, there was an original wall. When Su Shi came to visit, he saw that there were many poems written by his predecessors in front of the wall, and immediately rose up. He asked for a pen to write a poem about the wall of Xilin, which was passed down as a good poem for thousands of years. The sentence "don't know the true face of Lushan Mountain" is very philosophical.
Xilin temple in Lushan
Located at the West foot of Lushan Mountain, Jiujiang City, Jiangxi Province, the Xilin Temple of Lushan Mountain was founded in 377 a.d. by master Huiyong, the founder of Lushan Mountain. Up to now, it has a history of more than 1700 years. It is "the first temple in the north of Lushan Mountain".
The Xilin temple and the Donglin temple are both built according to the Lushan Mountain. The distance between them is less than 100 Zhang, and the landscape has its own merits. Donglin temple is large-scale and majestic, while Xilin temple is small and compact, beautiful and rigorous. Su Shi, a great poet of the Northern Song Dynasty, once wrote a poem titled "the wall of Xilin", which says that "the mountains are seen horizontally and the peaks are formed on the side, and the distance and height are different. I don't know the true face of Lushan Mountain. It's only because I'm in the mountain. " This poem has been passed down through the ages, and it has also made Xilin Temple famous. With the vicissitudes of life, the Xilin temple has been built and abolished several times. The prosperity of the temple today is closely related to master juehai's efforts.
reconstruction
In 1988, master juehai from Taiwan returned to the mainland to visit his relatives. Regardless of her age, she went to Donglin temple to see Master Guoyi. She said that she couldn't bear to see Xilin Temple deserted and vowed to rebuild it. Master juehai's idea was immediately approved by all levels of government departments and Buddhist circles in Jiujiang City. In September 1989, all reconstruction projects were started. The reconstruction project will be carried out in two phases.
From September 1989 to September 1992 was the first phase of the project. During the period, 10 mu of land was purchased, the pagoda of dry Buddha was restored, the main hall, the left and right squatters, the reception room, the dining hall, the mountain gate, etc. were newly built, and a 3.5-meter-high stone brick wall of 900 meters was built. From December 1992 to October 1996, the second phase of the project has completed two construction projects: Tianwang hall, Amitabha hall, dizang hall, Guanyin hall, cangjing hall, Dake hall, Dazhai hall and Buddha pool. The reconstruction project of Xilin Temple costs a lot of money and has a large scale. It took more than seven years, with a total construction area of 9000 square meters.
Cultural Relic
There are many precious cultural relics in Xilin temple, among which the seven storey thousand Buddha pagoda is the most distinctive. Qianfo pagoda, also known as "zhuanfutu", was built by Emperor Xuanzong of Tang Dynasty in Kaiyuan period of Tang Dynasty. It was originally a stone pagoda, about Zhang high. In the first year of Qingli in the Northern Song Dynasty, Guan Zhongwen spent nine years rebuilding the stone tower into a seven story six sided Pavilion style brick tower with a height of 46 meters and a circumference of 32.4 meters. It opens from north to South and is ventilated and dehumidified. It opens from the second floor in the East. Outside the tower, you can climb the ladder to the seven floors to have a panoramic view. In the fifth year of Chongzhen reign of the Ming Dynasty, master Zhao Zhen overhauled the pagoda. There were niches inside and outside each floor for worshiping Buddha statues. The Buddha statues were more than feet high and were all clay sculptures. Some of them were filled with gold, while others were pasted in different colors. Now there are dozens of them that have been re decorated with gold. So far, for hundreds of years, the ancient pagoda has been in disrepair, with cracks in the base, tilted body, and no top.
In 1988, the thousand Buddha pagoda was fully restored and decorated. At the same time, the Jade Buddha was invited from Myanmar and worshipped on the top floor. He also made a special trip to Jingdezhen, Jiangxi Province to order hundreds of imitation Ming porcelain Buddha statues and set up peripheral niches for worship. There are 1008 Buddha statues inside and outside the pagoda. From then on, the pagoda of Thousand Buddhas has revived its splendor, not inferior to its former glory. In addition, there are paintings such as "Eighteen Arhats" and "five hundred Arhats" in the temple, more than 1000 volumes of sutras and various Buddhist classics, and several inscriptions and statues of the Jin and Ming Dynasties.
Abbot
The current abbot of Xilin temple, Jue Ni Hai Shi, became a monk in Linji temple in Taiwan. He once raised funds to support the construction of the main hall of Donglin temple. Later, he decided to rebuild the Xilin Taoist temple and sell off his industry and savings in Taiwan. After seven years of building a new Xilin temple, he set the rules: no fate, no climbing, no asking for help, no repentance, no tickets. During the reconstruction period, master juehai worked hard day and night, carefully planned, designed and constructed by himself, inspected the quality and purchased transportation materials at the construction site day and night. Now the Xilin temple stands towering on the Lushan Mountain, and its splendor is revived. Master juehai has finally fulfilled his wish.
