Tarim Populus euphratica Forest National Park integrates Tahe natural landscape, Populus euphratica landscape and desert landscape. It is the oldest, largest, best preserved and most primitive Populus euphratica forest reserve in the world. Populus euphratica is a remnant of the ancient tree species in the third century A.D. it is a plant transformed by desertification. It is as precious as Ginkgo biloba. It has strong vitality and is known as living fossil.

Tarim Populus euphratica Forest Park has many historical sites. About 10 kilometers southwest of the park, there stands the beacon of the Han Dynasty more than 2000 years ago, which is an immortal monument of soldiers guarding the border. Tarim Populus euphratica Forest Park integrates Tahe natural landscape, Populus euphratica landscape, desert landscape and petroleum industry landscape. It is a natural scenic resort for sightseeing, leisure, field exploration, science research and timesharing. The park is divided into tourist service area, sightseeing area and entertainment area. The tourist service area is a comprehensive service area integrating catering, accommodation, entertainment and shopping; the sightseeing area is composed of a 17 km long sightseeing road with 126 bends and various Populus euphratica landscapes along the way; the leisure and entertainment area is composed of a 13 km long circular sightseeing railway and a number of lakes in the forest.
