Hubei Institute of engineering is an ordinary undergraduate university organized by the people's Government of Hubei Province. Its predecessor is the third normal school of Hubei Province, which was founded in 1943. It has gone through several stages, including Xiaogan University, Xiaogan branch of martial arts teacher, Xiaogan normal college and Xiaogan college. It has Hubei vocational and Technical Normal College (formerly known as Huanong Xiaogan branch) and southern urban and rural construction school (Xiaogan Construction Engineering School) integrated. Historical evolution
Hubei Provincial Third Normal School
In 1943, Hubei Provincial Third Normal School was founded in suixian county (now Suizhou City).
In September 1947, the school moved from suixian county to Anlu county (now Anlu City).
In February 1948, it was renamed li'anlu normal school in Hubei Province.
In December 1948, he moved to Hanyang Xianzheng street and Wuchang houbu street in Wuhan city.
In June 1949, the school moved back to Anlu county and resumed classes at the current site of Chengguan No.2 primary school.
In the spring of 1950, he moved to sanchabu, Xiaogan County, and changed his name to Xiaogan normal school.
In the autumn of 1951, the school built a school building outside the north gate of Xiaogan City gate; in 1952, it moved to a new school building, which is now the school site.
Xiaogan University
In the autumn of 1958, Xiaogan University was founded, with four specialties of industry, agriculture, medicine and normal education. The normal college is located in Xiaogan normal school, offering four majors of Chinese, mathematics, physics and biology.
In 1959, Xiaogan University was closed, and the normal college was reserved. It was renamed Xiaogan normal college. The Chinese Language Department of Huangpi University was merged, and its specialties were extended to Chinese, mathematics, physics, chemistry and biology.
Xiaogan Teachers College
In 1960, Xiaogan Normal College changed its name to Wuhan normal college.
In 1961, Xiaogan area was separated from Wuhan City, Wuhan normal college was closed, and Xiaogan normal school was restored.
From 1961 to 1966, the number of students in the school continued to maintain around 600.
From 1966 to 1970, the school suspended enrollment.
At the end of 1970, Xiaogan normal school changed its name to Xiaogan normal school, resumed its operation, and held training classes for senior high school English, mathematics and agricultural basic teachers.
In the spring of 1971, the school moved to weijiadian, the former Xiaogan county (now Xiaochang County), resumed enrollment, and opened secondary normal schools such as Chinese, mathematics, English, industrial foundation, agricultural foundation, etc.
In the spring of 1973, the school moved back to its original location until 1975.
In 1975, the school set up a normal class with two majors of mathematics and biochemistry. The length of schooling was three years. At the same time, it also enrolled a class of "she Lai she Qu".
In 1976, secondary normal schools stopped enrolling students, and higher normal schools set up four classes: mathematics, politics and literature, and agronomy.
Xiaogan branch of Wuhan Normal University
In the spring of 1978, the school changed its name to Xiaogan branch of Wuhan Normal University, offering five specialties, including Chinese, English, mathematics, physics and chemistry.
In 1979, Gaonong class moved to sanchabu, Xiaogan county (now Xiaonan District). On this basis, Xiaogan branch of Chenghua Zhongnong college was established, and enrollment began in 1979.
In the autumn of 1981, the Xiaogan branch of the martial arts teacher began to offer specialized correspondence education, offering Chinese, mathematics, physics and chemistry majors, and recruiting 840 students.
In January 1983, Xiaogan normal college was established on the basis of Xiaogan branch of Wuhan Normal University, with five majors of Chinese, English, mathematics, physics and chemistry.
In June 1984, Huanong Xiaogan branch was renamed Hubei Vocational and Technical Teachers College.
Xiaogan Teachers College
In 1986, Xiaogan Teachers College and Hubei Vocational and Technical Teachers College were merged. The school was named Xiaogan Teachers College, with 2000 students and 7 majors.
From 1987 to 1993, the school successively added seven majors, including biology, political history, computer application, art education, trade economy, applied electronic technology and advertising.
From 1983 to 1988, the school successively opened eight courses for party and government cadres, English, mathematics and chemistry teachers.
In 1984, the school continued to run correspondence education in teachers colleges.
In 1988, Xiaogan teachers college night University and Xiaogan self study university were established.
In June 1993, the school changed its name to Xiaogan teachers college. There are 14 majors in Chinese, English, mathematics, physics, electronic technology, chemistry, biology, agronomy, forestry, politics, fine arts, advertising, economy, computer, etc. among them, chemistry and agronomy have started to train undergraduate students jointly with Hubei Normal University and Hubei Agricultural University.
From 1997 to 1998, the University cooperated with Hubei University to train undergraduates.
In August 1999, Xiaogan Construction Engineering School (southern urban and rural construction school) was integrated into Xiaogan normal college, which implemented the management system of provincial and municipal co management and co construction, with the province as the main body.

In March 2000, with the approval of the Ministry of education and the people's Government of Hubei Province, Xiaogan college was established on the basis of Xiaogan normal college.

On November 18, 2001, the school held the "opening ceremony of Xiaogan college and the signing ceremony of running the school jointly with Wuhan University".

In December 2011, with the approval of the Ministry of education, Xiaogan University was renamed Hubei Institute of engineering.
In November 2013, Hubei Institute of Engineering held a celebration of its 70th anniversary.
In September 2014, it was selected into the first batch of "excellent agriculture and forestry talents education and training plan" projects.
In July 2015, the University Alliance in the old revolutionary base areas of Dabie Mountains was established and became a member of the alliance.
On November 8, 2015, the University Alliance of Hanjiang River Basin was jointly established with 11 universities in Hanjiang River Basin.
In March 2016, the University was approved to major in mechanical and electronic engineering.
In the same year, it was selected as the project institution of Application-oriented Undergraduate College of industry education integration project of national development and Reform Commission.
In January 2017, the school was selected as the pilot project of the Ministry of education "Internet plus China manufacturing 2025".
