Collection
Brick inscriptions in the Eastern Han Dynasty
It is made of discarded City bricks with plain surface in the Han Dynasty and carved with a sharp tool from right to left. This kind of carving method makes the brick text lose the charm of pen and ink to a great extent, and forms a kind of vigorous and natural gold and stone flavor. Different from the official script on the inscriptions at that time, it did not have the change of broad head and swallow tail, nor did it have the obvious brushstroke, nor did it have the style of strict rules and regulations like Xiping Shijing, ritual stele, caoquan stele, etc. it is a kind of official script style that is different from both the Han Dynasty stele and bamboo slips and silk script, and it is a pure used and unmodified calligraphy style, Its only writing consciousness is simplicity, which is also the important reason for the naivety and simplicity of these brick inscriptions.
Brick inscriptions in Western Jin Dynasty
The Western Jin Dynasty is in the primary stage of epitaph development. The epitaph of Western Jin Dynasty was inherited from Cao Wei and Yu Xu, so the form of epitaph was not fixed. The calligraphy style of brick writing in the Western Jin Dynasty inherits the legacy of Han and Wei Dynasty brick writing and has a new development. His calligraphy is not lost in the Han and Wei brick bold and simple bearing, and in the structure and style than the Han and Wei brick changes more abundant. In addition, the number of other characters and variant characters in brick writing in the Western Jin Dynasty is increasing, which is also a feature of folk calligraphy, especially in this period. However, because the folk calligraphy culture is not high, calligraphy without formal training, and can be "unscrupulous", random out of the fun. This is the most basic feature of ancient brick writing, so it is more treasured by Jinshi and calligraphers.
Tile inscriptions in the Northern Wei Dynasty
The Northern Wei Dynasty was a model of the integration of foreign culture and Central Plains culture. After Emperor Xiaowen carried out the reform of Chinese culture, what he showed in culture and art was the inheritance of Han culture. There is no big breakthrough in the evolution of the characters in this period. Generally speaking, people will take "oblique drawing and tight knot" as the ultimate description of calligraphy in the Northern Wei Dynasty, but this only applies to the inscription calligraphy in Luoyang period, not to the folk calligraphy at that time. There are two remarkable characteristics of the tile inscriptions in the Northern Wei Dynasty: one is the folk craftsman's calligraphy, the other is the carving before burning. We can see that these tile inscriptions appear in different styles, such as official script, regular script, running script and cursive script. Some of them are extremely fluent in writing, while others are extremely clumsy. The reason for these differences is probably related to the cultural level of the engravers. At the same time, some craftsmen may not be able to write and need to be engraved by others, so the signatures of many different contents are similar to those written by one person. "Carve first and burn later" means to carve words on the unfinished tile before firing. Because the tile is soft and can move the pen freely, the characters formed are closer to the real level of the writer than the stone tomb brick.
Inscriptions of past dynasties
The best inscriptions of Xiping Shijing in Eastern Han Dynasty are in Luoyang, the best inscriptions of Santi Shijing in Cao Wei Dynasty are in Luoyang, the best inscriptions of Biyong in Western Jin Dynasty are in Luoyang, and the best inscriptions of Longmen 20pin in Northern Wei Dynasty are in Luoyang. Luoyang in the Tang Dynasty, as the cultural center of China, is a place where scholars gather. A large number of precious inscriptions are also left in Luoyang, which is the soul of the cultural capital of Luoyang. The inscriptions in Luoyang Museum of inscriptions are mainly epitaphs of the Northern Dynasties and Tang Dynasty. These epitaphs record all kinds of social activities of the ancients, and provide rare material materials for the study of cultural and martial arts of several dynasties. They are important evidence for proving history, rectifying history and supplementing history. They can be regarded as a history of stone inscriptions, an ancient archives and a research center It is a treasure house of ancient Chinese calligraphy.
