Lingshan Buddha

--Lingshan Giant Buddha is located in the south of Qinlu peak in Mashan, Wuxi. It was built in 1997. The location of the Great Buddha is Xiaoling mountain named by Xuanzang of Tang Dynasty, so it is called Lingshan Great Buddha.

--The Buddha is one of the symbols of Wuxi. Facing Taihu Lake and Lingshan mountain, it has a kind smile and a wide view of all living beings, which is of great significance to social, cultural and economic development.

Lingshan Giant Buddha is a world famous scenic spot. It is located between the mountains and waters of Mashan national scenic spot in Binhu District, Wuxi City, Jiangsu Province. It is also an important part of Wuxi Lingshan scenic spot, a national AAAAA scenic spot. The Buddha body is located in the south of Qinlu peak of Mashan, Wuxi City. It was completed in Kaiguang on November 15, 1997. The location of the Great Buddha is Xiaoling mountain named by Xuanzang of Tang Dynasty, so it is called "Lingshan Great Buddha".

Lingshan Buddha is one of the city symbols of Wuxi, which is of great significance to social, cultural and economic development. Wu Xianlin, a Nanjing artist, is responsible for the sculpture design of the Giant Buddha.

Construction process

The foundation of Lingshan Giant Buddha was laid in 1994 and completed in 1997. It was built with the full support of Mr. Zhao Puchu, the former president of the Buddhist Association.

The casting of the Great Buddha is a large-scale and difficult project. The Preparatory Committee decided that Nanjing Chenguang Group would undertake the project. Nanjing Chenguang Group has reliable technology, and has accumulated rich experience in the construction of Hong Kong Temple of heaven Buddha. The design of the Buddha's architectural structure is undertaken by the East China Architectural Design Institute at home and abroad, which is designed by the Oriental Pearl TV Tower in Shanghai.

The main data of Lingshan Buddha are as follows:

1. Lingshan Buddha is 88 meters high, 79 meters in body and 9 meters in petal. 2. The body of Lingshan Giant Buddha (excluding lotus petal) is composed of 1560 pieces of 6-8mm thick copper wallboard with a weld length of more than 30 km. 3. The Lingshan Giant Buddha has cast about 725 tons of copper, covering an area of more than 9000 square meters, about the size of a football field and a half. 4. Due to the application of high technology, Lingshan Giant Buddha can resist the invasion of typhoon with magnitude 14 and earthquake with magnitude 8.

The creation of Lingshan Giant Buddha is based on the records of the 32 forms of the Tathagata in the Buddhist sutra. The Buddha's benevolent face smiles and looks at all living beings. The "seal of fearlessness" in his right hand represents pain, and the "seal of giving and wishing" in his left hand represents happiness. All these are the phases of blessing. The whole Buddha's form is solemn and complete, serene, dignified and meticulous, showing the Buddha's compassionate Dharma.

It is said in the Buddhist Scripture that the completion of a new Buddha statue must be enlightened before it has its sacred significance. The opening ceremony of Lingshan Giant Buddha is co hosted by the three major sects in the world. The scene is decorated with thousands of pots of fresh flowers and thousands of kilometers of yellow silk. On the 500 meter pilgrimage road, Buddhist flags are planted all over the place. The 218 level climbing cloud road is full of chrysanthemums. Thousands of trees are wrapped in yellow cloth. Ten thousand pigeons fly around the Buddha. With the sound of Sanskrit and the sound of drum music, we can see the Buddha's living in the world again; with the gathering of believers, we can see the virtue of Buddha's return. On the day of Kaiguang, since 4 am, believers from all over the world came in an endless stream. From the urban area to Mashan, the traffic flow lasted more than 20 kilometers and lasted for nearly four hours. On that day, with the light wind dancing around the Buddha, with the master's graceful voice, the auspicious clouds float up, the mist disappears, and the Buddha's benevolent face appears: his eyebrows are half bent, his smile is not intelligent; his eyes are slightly closed, and he wants to hear first. Tens of thousands of believers worship devoutly, acquiesce in their wishes, and hold Dharma joy meeting, showing their auspiciousness. The Kaiguang site of the Great Buddha is kept as it is. The Kaiguang video will be played in a circle soon, so that more visitors who can't come to the Kaiguang site can enjoy the grand occasion of Kaiguang and share the same fate and happiness! The Great Buddha is made of tin bronze. Apart from the permanence of bronze pieces, what's more important is that bronze art is derived from the essence of classical art, and it is also an extremely brilliant part of the traditional Chinese culture. The ancient simplicity, elegance, beauty and delicacy of bronze art enjoy a high status in the world.

Looking back on the history of China and Buddhism, in every prosperous era, there will be highly civilized artistic crystallization, lasting for thousands of generations. From Yungang and Longmen to Dunhuang and Dazu Now there are Lingshan Giant Buddha, which forms a five sided and five Buddha pattern in the whole country, with Lingshan Giant Buddha in Wuxi, Jiangsu Province in the East, Tiantan Giant Buddha in Hong Kong in the south, Leshan Giant Buddha in Sichuan Province in the west, Yungang Giant Buddha in Shanxi Province in the north, and Longmen Giant Buddha in Luoyang, Henan Province in the middle.

Lingshan Giant Buddha stands on Xiaoling mountain on the shore of Taihu Lake in Wuxi, which reflects the economic development, cultural prosperity, social stability and peace of East China. It is also an important embodiment of China's policy of freedom of religious belief, and symbolizes peace and life. Like bronze, it is eternal.

Lingshan Shengjing is 17 kilometers away from Wuxi City. It is connected with a special tourist highway. It is located on the Shanghai Nanjing Expressway and the Beijing Shanghai artery, and the traffic is very convenient. The opened high-speed yacht will connect Lingshan scenic spot with Yuantouzhu, Three Kingdoms City, Shuihu City, nianhuawan and other new and old scenic spots in 45 minutes, and cruise ships will connect with Suzhou, Huzhou and Hangzhou, thus forming a more compact tourism plate around Taihu Lake. In addition, the Buddha faces Taihu Lake, Qinglong mountain on the left, Baihu mountain on the right, and Lingshan mountain on the back.

History of the Great Buddha

The history of Lingshan area can be traced back to the Tang Dynasty more than 1000 years ago. It is said that Xuanzang came back from the West and traveled to the southeast. When he came to xiaolingshan, he saw "many mountains and many emeralds". He was praised for his extraordinary scenery and said that he was "the winner of the vultures of Xizhu"! So we named this mountain Xiaoling mountain. Lingjiu mountain in India is the place where Sakyamuni became a Buddha. It is a famous Buddhist holy land. He asked his eldest disciple to preside over Kaifa here. Xiaolingshan Temple gradually developed from this. The Lingshan Giant Buddha, which stands at the southern foot of Xiaoling mountain, including the lotus seat, is 88 meters high, which is equivalent to the height of a 30 story building. It is 17 meters higher than the Leshan Giant Buddha in Sichuan Province, which says "the mountain is a Buddha, and the Buddha is a mountain". It is the second tallest Giant Buddha statue in China. If the three-layer foundation is added, the total height will be 101.5 meters. Lingshan Giant Buddha looks down with wise and kind eyes. No matter whether tourists come near or go far, they seem to be concerned by the eyes of the Buddha; and with people coming near or far away, their eyes seem to open and close slightly, the closer they are, the more open they will be; the corners of their mouths seem to smile but not smile, and they want to speak but not speak, and many instructions are about to be given out, which makes people feel more intimate and arouse all kinds of reverie. Close to the Buddha, looking up, the white clouds in the blue sky are long, making people feel that the Buddha is "moving". The body of Lingshan Buddha is well proportioned and appropriate, and the pleats of clothing are bright and smooth, elegant and flexible, which makes it more dynamic and suitable for both the far and the near.

Protection of Giant Buddha

Lingshan Buddha's body and lotus seat are all assembled and welded by tin bronze plates, with a total copper consumption of more than 700 tons. The Buddha body (excluding the lotus seat) is made up of 1560 pieces of copper wallboards. The average area of each copper wallboard is about 5 square meters. Some of the copper wallboards have an expanded area of more than 20 square meters, but the thickness is only about 7 mm. Such a towering Buddha is made up of so many copper wallboards. When assembling, it should not only ensure seamless, smooth lines, perfect image and no distortion on the whole, but also have strict requirements for wind resistance, earthquake resistance, lightning protection and atmospheric corrosion resistance. It is easy to see the high technical difficulty and engineering workload. With the strong cooperation of many domestic units and more than three years' efforts, Lingshan Giant Buddha stood on the top of xiaolingshan as scheduled and officially opened on November 15, 1997. The five directions and five Buddhas pattern proposed by Mr. Zhao Puchu was formed. The lotus seat under the feet of Lingshan Giant Buddha is also all made of tin bronze. The lotus seat is composed of four layers of lotus petals, with 22 lotus petals in each layer, and a total of 88 lotus petals. Anyone who has donated over RMB 5 million can engrave his name on one of the lotus petals.

Mr. Zhao Puchu wrote the poem "Lingshan Giant Buddha" praising: "the lake is shining with thousands of hectares of pure glaze, and it is well known that Lingshan is shining back. The body and the clouds cast the rain together, and the eyes drop down to teach the people to show deep kindness. From here, I will stay in Wuxi, and I will follow the group to meet the prime time. I'm glad to see my friend, my teacher and my son, and I'm happy to see a peaceful world.
