Dongguan Institute of technology is the first regular undergraduate university in Dongguan, Guangdong Province. It is jointly built by provinces and cities, mainly by cities. Dr. Yang Zhenning, winner of Nobel Prize in physics, is the honorary president. Dongguan City, where the school is located, is the opening place of modern Chinese history and the frontier of reform and opening up. Its economic strength has been ranked 12th among the "top 100 cities with comprehensive strength" and first among prefecture level cities in China for many years. It is one of the "best charming city in China", "the most economically dynamic city in China", "the International Garden City" and "the National Basketball City". It has won the title of "national civilized city" in 2011.

The University was established in 1990 with the approval of the former State Education Commission in April 1992. It was changed into a full-time undergraduate university with the approval of the Ministry of education in March 2002. It was approved as a bachelor's degree awarding unit in May 2006. It passed the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of Education in May 2008 and obtained good results. In June 2010, it was approved as an education institution together with 61 universities such as Tsinghua University and Shanghai Jiaotong University The first batch of colleges and universities to implement the "excellent engineer education and training plan" of the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China were approved to be the new master's degree awarding units of Guangdong Province in August 2010 and the "international science and technology cooperation base of Guangdong Province" in 2012. The school has two campuses. Songshanhu campus is located in Songshanhu high tech Industrial Development Zone, which is a garden like and modern campus with an area of 1500 mu. The school facilities are perfect, the teaching experimental equipment is sufficient, and the construction of public service system is improving day by day. Guancheng campus area of more than 360 mu, convenient transportation, lakes and mountains, trees, beautiful environment. There are 10 experimental teaching centers, among which "electrical and electronic experimental teaching center", "computer science and technology experimental teaching center", "mechanical design and manufacturing and automation professional engineering practice education center" and "chemical experimental teaching demonstration center" are provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers. The building area of the library is 27000 square meters, with a collection of more than 1195000 books, more than 5000 periodicals and digital resources It has built a campus network with Gigabit bandwidth backbone and 100m bandwidth to the desktop, and has set up 24710 information points. With an area of more than 140000 square meters, it is the national track and field team listing base. In 2006, it successfully co sponsored the seventh University Games of Guangdong Province.

The school has established a discipline and specialty system focusing on engineering and management, with the coordinated development of literature, science, economics, law, education and other disciplines. It has 15 departments and 33 undergraduate majors. Historical evolution

In January 1990, the people's Government of Guangdong Province approved the establishment of Dongguan Institute of technology.

In March 1991, the teaching building of Dongguan Institute of technology was completed.

In July 1991, the State Education Commission approved the first enrollment.

In July 1991, Sun Yat sen University, South China Normal University and Jinan University opened three majors of financial accounting, business management and Chinese secretary.

In April 1992, the State Education Commission officially approved the establishment of the Institute.

In July 1992, it adopted the joint mode of running schools, cooperated with South China University of technology, Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Guilin University of Electronic Science and technology and other domestic key and characteristic universities to recruit students, and used their excellent teachers and equipment to cultivate electronic talents for Dongguan.

In April 2002, the Ministry of education of the people's Republic of China approved Dongguan Institute of technology to be upgraded to an undergraduate university, and enrolled undergraduates in that year.

In December 2002, the construction of Songshanhu campus of Dongguan Institute of technology started.

In October 2003, Songshanhu campus of Dongguan Institute of technology was officially opened.

In May 2004, Dongguan normal school was merged into Dongguan Institute of technology and renamed as normal teaching department of Dongguan Institute of technology.

In September 2005, we carried out joint training with South China University of technology and Jinan University to accumulate experience in postgraduate training.

In May 2006, Guangdong Provincial Academic Degrees Committee approved Dongguan Institute of technology as the awarding unit of bachelor's degree

In June 2007, Dongguan Institute of technology was qualified to recruit students from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

In May 2008, the University passed the undergraduate teaching evaluation of the Ministry of education and got good results.

In June 2010, the University, together with 61 universities including Tsinghua University, was approved as the first batch of universities to implement the "excellent engineer education and training plan" by the Ministry of education.

In August 2010, it was approved as a new master's degree awarding unit in Guangdong Province.

In 2012, it was approved as "Guangdong International Science and technology cooperation base".

In February 2014, Dongguan Institute of technology became one of the fourth batch of postdoctoral innovation and practice bases in Guangdong Province. In April, we signed the agreement on joint training of Postgraduates between Huazhong University of science and technology and Dongguan Institute of technology with Huazhong University of science and technology, launched the joint training of Postgraduates project, and planned to recruit 10 students in 2014. In June, the University joined SAP Global University Alliance.

In February 2015, the school was identified as the "training base of social work talents in Guangdong Province". In April, the University signed an agreement with Guangdong University of technology to jointly train postgraduates. In May, "Guangdong Taiwan Institute of technology of Dongguan Institute of technology" was founded. In June, the university added a new "International College" to officially recruit foreign students. In July, the University was selected as the founding University of Guangdong high level University of science and Technology (South University of science and technology, Dongguan Institute of technology, Foshan Institute of science and Technology), and successfully won the right of associate professor evaluation.

In March 2017, the Ministry of Education approved the cooperation between Dongguan Institute of technology and the French National Institute of technology to set up a non independent legal person Sino foreign cooperative school running organization "Joint College of Dongguan Institute of technology and French National Institute of technology"; in the same month, the school signed a contract with 360 enterprise security group to jointly build 360 Cyberspace Security Industry College and 360 Cyberspace Security Innovation Institute, creating the first one in China Network security college and the first network security talent base in Guangdong Province. On June 1, the College of Marxism was established; in the same month, it was selected into the list of construction units of Guangdong Province in 2017 to award doctoral and master's degrees

In May 2018, Dongguan Institute of technology was identified as the new master's degree awarding unit; in the same month, the school opened the first "Yang Zhenning innovation class" in China. In October, the international joint graduate school was established. In November, the University Science and Technology Park was selected as the "National University Science and Technology Park cultivation unit". In the same year, the first doctoral joint training program was officially launched, helping to recruit doctoral students from the University of Nottingham and the University of New South Wales.

In 2019, we will start to recruit full-time academic degree and full-time professional degree postgraduates independently. In the same year, more than 620 million yuan (including cash and in kind) of social donations for education development were raised, and Alumni Association ranked 34th in social donations of Chinese universities in 2019.

In July 2019, the signing ceremony and unveiling ceremony of Guangdong Provincial Department of education, Guangdong Provincial Department of science and technology and Dongguan Municipal People's government for supporting Dongguan Institute of technology to build a new high-level science and Technology University demonstration school were held in Dongguan Institute of technology. Dongguan Institute of technology has become the only new high-level science and Technology University demonstration school in the province.
