On August 13, 1958, Fujian College of traditional Chinese medicine, the first college of traditional Chinese medicine in Fujian Province, was established on the basis of Fujian College of traditional Chinese medicine. At the beginning of its establishment, there were only six full-time teachers, and in 1966, there were 89 full-time teachers. At the beginning of its establishment, the school was directly led by the Provincial Department of health.

During the Cultural Revolution
In November 1969, the leading group of Fujian Revolutionary Committee decided to merge Fujian College of traditional Chinese medicine with Fujian Medical College and the medical department of Huaqiao University to establish Fujian Medical University, which was relocated to Quanzhou. At the same time, Fujian Institute of traditional Chinese medicine was decoupled from Fujian College of traditional Chinese medicine.
In 1966, the "Cultural Revolution" began, and individual TCM clinics were closed. The provincial people's Hospital lost the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine hospital due to the increasing proportion of Western medicine personnel, and the Municipal People's Hospital moved to Beifeng mountain area. Of the 220 teaching and administrative staff (excluding affiliated units), 180 have been transferred.
The Department of traditional Chinese medicine of Fujian Medical University, established in 1972, continues to cultivate talents of traditional Chinese medicine, and continues the mission of Fujian University of traditional Chinese medicine.

In 1976, the Fujian provincial Party committee made a decision to resume Fujian College of traditional Chinese medicine and set up a preparatory leading group. With the approval of the State Council, Fujian University of traditional Chinese medicine officially resumed.
In March 1978, Fujian provincial Party committee decided to build a new school in Shudou Wusi North Road, Hongshan Town, Fuzhou ring district; on November 8, Fujian College of traditional Chinese medicine held a listing ceremony and opening ceremony, in which 178 undergraduate students of traditional Chinese medicine were recruited in the autumn of that year; in the early stage of the resumption, only one comprehensive office was set up, and the work framework of various departments was gradually constructed between May and June 1979.
In May 1980, the provincial government approved the construction of the Affiliated Hospital of Fujian College of traditional Chinese medicine at the former site of Fuzhou jixiangshan College of traditional Chinese medicine, and set up the Preparatory Office of the Affiliated Hospital at the end of the same year.
