Folklore
One winter, when Genghis Khan was fighting against his rival Tatar tribe, he led more than 100 light cavalry to attack the Tatar tribe overnight. He didn't want the Tatar people to be prepared. In a fierce battle, Genghis Khan had only 10 people left, retreating from the North Bank of Hulun Lake, and the Tatar people were chasing him. Under the cover of night, Genghis Khan and his party retreated to the northwest Bank of the lake. On the bank is a steep cliff, behind which the Tatars approach. Genghis Khan saw a 20 meter high irregular stone column standing on the ice more than 20 meters away from the cliff. He thought it was a wonderful hiding place, so he ordered his men to withdraw westward, leading the Tatars to catch up. Genghis Khan left an entourage to dismount, take off his Mongolian robe, wrap his horse's hooves, and walk up the west slope Ice, go to the lake and hide behind the stone pillars. In a flash, the Tatar people chased the lake and found that there was only a 20 meter high stone pillar in the lake, and there was no one else. At this time, the Tatar people heard the cry of killing in the West. With the cry of killing, the Tatar people waved their horses to chase them.
While waiting for the Tatars to leave in the bitter cold wind, Genghis Khan and his entourage felt tired and hungry. He tightly grasped the bridle of his horse, tied it to the stone pillar in the lake, took out his luggage, ate some cooked beef jerky, ate a few handfuls of ice in the lake, and fell asleep with his entourage.
The next day, when the sun had just risen, the attendant woke Genghis Khan up. After a night's rest, Genghis Khan, who had recovered his strength, looked at the stone pillar that had been used to rescue and protect him from the cold, put his hands together, and said to the sun, "the stone pillar in the lake has saved my life, and I will worship again when I have accomplished my great cause.". After that, he and his entourage took their horses ashore and ran to the old camp on the banks of the krulen river. In memory of him, later generations called the stone pillar in the lake Genghis Khan's horse stake. Many herdsmen still worship the stone pillar on the third day of May and the thirteenth day of July in the lunar calendar.
It is said that when Genghis Khan trained his cavalry here, he tied his eight beloved horses to this stone pillar, so it is called Genghis Khan's horse post.
Hulunbuir prairie is the base of Genghis Khan's great achievements. In this land, he used his outstanding ability and courage to launch one war after another against political enemies, and also unified many Mongolian tribes here. The most famous war was the "kuoyitan" war between Genghis Khan and zamuhe, which also took place in Hulunbuir prairie. Genghis Khan's victory is related to his training tactics. According to legend, when Genghis Khan came to Hulun Lake and saw this beautiful and rich place with mountains and water, he set up camp and trained his cavalry. He stipulated that every cavalry must prepare three horses and own eight. He also creatively used "hunting" tactics to make cavalry encircle like Haizi, that is to say, encircle the enemy in a circle like a lake, which is conducive to all-round encirclement and defense. This training lasted eight days and nights, and the cavalry performed well. Genghis Khan also felt that they had mastered this tactic, so he took his eight beloved horses and tied them to the stone pillars in Hulun Lake, and ordered the cavalry to rest on the spot. In this way, Genghis Khan's cavalry once again mastered new tactics. Later, in memory of his tactics, the stone pillar in Hulun Lake was called Genghis Khan's horse post.
