Shanghai Saint Nicholas Church was originally a military chapel, founded in December 1924. A shrine was set up in the church to commemorate the death of Tsar Nicholas II.
In 1994, the hall was announced as a building protection unit in Shanghai.
The spatial layout of St. Nicholas hall in Shanghai follows the Byzantine architectural form, with centralized and mutually vertical two axes to deal with the architectural image. In appearance, a dome dominates the whole image at the top of the center, and then lowers symmetrically forward, backward, left and right to form a beautiful image. In the wall treatment, many with the image of the round spire as the top of the wall, divided into different sizes, high and low, decorate them, very personalized. Most of the walls have vertical windows in the middle. The top of the window ends with a semicircle arch. The window frames and panes are mostly made of cast iron flowers and stained glass, which is very religious.
The church was destroyed during the "Cultural Revolution" and its upper dome was turned into a factory. At the end of the 20th century, the church was overhauled and renovated, with the dome above.
