Dazang Temple
Dazang temple is located in the north of malkang County, about 500 kilometers away from Chengdu City, in the deep mountains with an altitude of more than 3000 meters. The full name of the dazang temple is Gadan DHE Tsang lhundrup Ling, which means "to lead the people to believe in and fulfill the mission to make the island come true". "Dazang" means "complete confidence" in Tibetan.
The last temple built by tsako Ngawang drakpa, the eminent monk of Jiarong, was built in 1414.
In the history of Chinese literature, dazang temple has also been translated as "Dacang Temple", "daze Temple" and so on. This is because Tibetan is different from Chinese transliteration. In a certain period, the Tibetan people in Anduo area also called dazang Temple "chagu Temple".
In history, dazang temple is very famous, which can be called the general temple of Gelug school in northern Sichuan. It is often mentioned in the biographies of master zongkaba, the history of political and religious affairs in Andou, and the historical materials of Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the Potala Palace in Lhasa, a mural of "an important monastery in Tibet" also includes this temple.
geographical position
The mountain of dazang temple is like a giant elephant. The temple is built on the neck of the elephant. In addition, the nearby mountains seem to surround the center, forming a natural arrangement of 13 great Vajra Mandala. In the center of the temple, you can see a peak in the East, South, West and North, which is the square Dharma protector of the mandala.
Architectural features
Dazang temple has developed to more than 100 buildings, just like a small city. There were more than 800 monks in the heyday of the temple, but it is generally recorded in the literature as 500, which is taken from the meaning of 500 Arhats in the history of Buddhism.
After entering the temple gate and passing the square about 20 meters wide, you can get to the Sutra Hall: the gilded roof and the eight treasures with black background and white pattern hanging on the front. The interior of the Sutra hall is gorgeous, and the upper layer of the wall is exquisite Thangka. In the middle of the hall, gongmanza (the highest standard for Buddha) is used to worship Buddha statues and living Buddha portraits. The four walls of the left ear hall are used for thousands of Buddha statues, and the right ear hall is used for thousands of Tara statues.
In the 1950s and 1960s, dazang temple had three Maitreya halls, six Buddhist halls, including zongkaba master hall, Daxiong hall and Dharma protection hall, as well as one praying bamboo tower and one Kankang tower, which served as the residence of two Buddhist platforms in the past dynasties. The top of the main hall is gilded copper tile, which was given by the emperor of the Han Dynasty. There is a closed house on the mountain behind the temple, which is used by monks for meditation. In front of the temple, there is a 30 meter high Pagoda with numerous precious relics.
Collection of cultural relics
In history, due to its long history and scale, dazang temple is honored as "the second in ZHACANG", only inferior to Gandan temple, the ancestral court of metrical school. It can be called the general temple of metrical school in northern Sichuan. It is often mentioned in the biographies of master zongkaba, the history of Anduo politics and religion, and the historical materials of Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the Potala Palace in Lhasa, there is a mural of "an important temple in Tibet", which also includes this great temple.
There are many sacred objects and precious scriptures in each hall of dazang temple. There are dozens of meters high statues of future Buddha in Maitreya hall. Even for ordinary monk houses, each building has a complete set of Tripitaka (divided into "ganzhur" and "danzhur" in Tibetan Buddhism). The walls and ceiling of each room are painted with murals, recording the life history of the Buddha and his ancestors.
In the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the temple was highly respected by the emperors and the imperial court, and was long supported by the emperors, including ritual objects, seals, gold, treasures, cloth and daily necessities of monks. The dazang temple contains an ivory seal given by Emperor Qianlong, a small amount of brocade and cloth provided by Emperor Qianlong, pieces of Royal heaven clothes and five Buddha crowns (there were as many as 50 sets at that time, which are of great value), imperial edicts and imperial edicts of the past dynasties, and a Gong provided by the general of the Ming Dynasty. This Gong is the treasure of dazang temple. Its sound is very loud and beautiful, and it is well-known far and near. Apart from numerous precious offerings and respect from emperors of Ming and Qing Dynasties and central Tibet, dazang temple was also supported and supported by 18 local chieftains in history, becoming the authority and center of Buddhism in northern Sichuan.
