Dalian Japanese College

Dalian Foreign Studies University, formerly known as Dalian Japanese college, was founded in 1964. Under the care of Premier Zhou Enlai and other party and state leaders, it is an institution of higher learning to cultivate Japanese translators urgently needed by the country.

In 1970, the school changed its name to Liaoning foreign language college. In the same year, English department and Russian Department were established.

Dalian Institute of foreign languages

In 1978, the University was upgraded to Dalian Institute of foreign languages.

In 1986, the University obtained the right to confer master's degree.

In 1996, the English Department changed its name to English college.

In 2005, the new campus of Lushun was started.

In 2007, the school moved to Lushun campus.

Dalian Foreign Studies University

In April 2013, the University changed its name to Dalian Foreign Studies University. In the same year, the University was approved to serve the national special needs of doctoral personnel training program.

In November 2015, the school charter was approved by the Education Department of Liaoning Province.

In January 2017, the people's Government of Liaoning Province issued the implementation plan for Liaoning Province to promote the construction of world-class universities and first-class disciplines as a whole. Dalian Foreign Studies University was selected as the "key construction University of first-class universities in Liaoning Province", and the discipline of foreign language and literature was selected as the "first-class discipline" in Liaoning Province.

Scientific research achievements

According to the official website of the University in March 2020, nearly 400 scientific research projects above the provincial level have been approved since 2012, including one major project of the National Social Science Fund. More than 400 academic papers have been published in core journals, 32 teaching materials have been approved as national and provincial planning teaching materials for undergraduates of general higher education in the 12th Five Year Plan, and nearly 300 academic achievements have won scientific research awards at or above the municipal level.
