Historical evolution
At the beginning of the school
In October 1950, the Ministry of trade of the Central People's government held a national conference on trade personnel, and decided to set up colleges and universities to train business cadres in 1951.
In July 1951, the senior business cadre school of the Ministry of trade of the Central People's government was established at No. 32, jiutiao, dongsibei, Dongcheng District, Beijing.
In March 1952, with the approval, it established a subordinate relationship with the Ministry of education of the Central People's government, and the school began to be under the dual leadership of the Ministry of trade and the Ministry of education. In July, the Ministry of trade was abolished and the school was under the leadership of the Ministry of foreign trade of the Central People's government. Since then, the Ministry of education has been divided into the Ministry of higher education and the Ministry of education. In September, the school moved to 33 qianmachang, jiugulou street.
In January 1953, the school was renamed Beijing Foreign Trade College. In September, all the teachers from the foreign trade teaching and research section of the Central University of Finance and economics were incorporated into Beijing Foreign Trade College. In October, it became a university entrusted by the Ministry of higher education to the Ministry of foreign trade.
In January 1954, the Ministry of Higher Education decided to merge the foreign trade major of Beijing Foreign Trade College and the Department of trade of Renmin University of China to establish Beijing Institute of foreign trade after the summer vacation; the foreign trade major of other colleges and universities was suspended; the foreign trade teachers of Shanghai University of Finance and economics were transferred to Beijing Institute of foreign trade. On August 25, Beijing Institute of foreign trade was officially established.
In September 1955, he established a two-year foreign trade major.
In September 1956, entrusted by the Ministry of foreign trade, the college established a regular staff Amateur University with a six-year schooling.
In October 1960, it was listed as one of the 44 newly added national key colleges and universities.
Cultural Revolution
In 1966, the Party committee of the college decided to suspend classes every afternoon from May 11 to 21 and focus on the "Cultural Revolution" (4 hours for teachers and 2 hours for students). In June, the whole school closed, and the Ministry of foreign trade sent a working group to the college to lead the "Cultural Revolution". On August 13, the "working group" of the Ministry of foreign trade withdrew from the college according to the instructions of the central government. From September to December, most of the students, some teachers, cadres and staff members of the college went to all parts of the country one after another.
In January 1967, the "revolutionary rebels" of the college seized the leadership of the party and government of the college.
In March 1968, the Mao Zedong thought propaganda team of the Chinese people's Liberation Army entered the college, prompting the two factions of the college to "unite" and form the Revolutionary Committee of Beijing Institute of foreign trade. In August, the Capital Workers' propaganda team of Mao Zedong Thought entered the college.
In April 1969, the Ministry of foreign trade organized 149 teachers and cadres of Beijing Institute of foreign trade to set up the May 7th Cadre School of the Ministry of foreign trade in Shulan County, Jilin Province, to participate in labor. In November, the College moved to Gushi County, Henan Province.
In August 1970, the Ministry of foreign trade announced that Beijing Institute of foreign trade would be abolished in Gushi County, Henan Province. The work propaganda team and the military propaganda team were withdrawn at the same time. Most of the teachers and cadres entered the "May 7th" cadre school in Xixian County, Henan Province, while a small number of teachers and cadres returned to Beijing to enter the "May 7th" farm in Xiaotangshan County, Henan Province.
In March 1971, the Ministry of foreign trade decided to set up a foreign trade secondary vocational school with the staff of the former Beijing Institute of foreign trade as the basic force, together with the personnel of the cadre school of the Ministry of foreign trade and the secondary vocational school of the Ministry of foreign trade. The school is located at the former site of Beijing Film Studio, Xiaoguan huizhong'an, outside Andingmen, Beijing.
In March 1973, with the approval of the State Council, it was agreed to resume the Beijing Institute of foreign trade.
In October 1974, the Revolutionary Committee of Beijing Institute of foreign trade was established.
In November 1977, the publicity team officially withdrew from the college.
reform and opening-up
In July 1978, with the approval of the State Council, Beijing Institute of foreign trade was changed from the dual leadership of the Ministry of foreign trade and Beijing Municipality to the direct leadership of the Ministry of foreign trade, and was designated as a unit directly under the Ministry of foreign trade.
In February 1979, the branch of Beijing Institute of foreign trade was established.
In October 1980, night University of Beijing Institute of foreign trade was established, with a three-year program of foreign trade.
In November 1981, it became one of the first batch of master's degree awarding units in China.
In January 1983, the State Council decided to merge the Beijing Institute of foreign trade with the Institute of international economics and management.
In January 1984, he became a doctoral degree awarding unit. In September, Beijing Institute of foreign trade officially changed its name to University of foreign economic relations and trade.
In May 1985, with the approval of the Special Economic Zone Office of the State Council and the Ministry of foreign economic relations and trade, the school began to hold training courses for cadres who are open to the outside world.
In April 1986, the University and the Foreign Trade Transportation Corporation reached an agreement on the joint construction of international transportation management major. In July, the school signed an agreement with Shenzhen Foreign Trade (Group) Company of Guangdong Province to jointly establish Shenzhen Foreign Economic and trade personnel training center. In September, the school signed a joint school running agreement with the State Planning Commission to jointly hold a foreign language training center for foreign economic relations and trade.
On November 24, 1989, the school set up the board of directors.
In March 1994, the University and four neighboring universities, Beijing Institute of chemical technology, Beijing University of traditional Chinese medicine, Beijing Institute of fashion and China Institute of finance, agreed to implement joint education.
On June 28, 1995, the application for "211 Project" construction of the University passed the preliminary examination of experts organized by the Ministry of foreign trade and economic cooperation.
In 1997, it entered the "211 Project" key construction universities.
New trade university
In February 2000, the State Council decided to merge the China Institute of Finance and the University of foreign economic relations and trade to establish a new University of foreign economic relations and trade, which was transferred to the Ministry of Education (on September 20, 1987, it was managed by the people's Bank of China, industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, Bank of China, China Construction Bank (formerly the people's Construction Bank of China), people's Insurance Company of China, China International Trust and Investment Corporation) The company, Bank of communications, Everbright financial company and other nine financial institutions jointly raised funds to establish the China Institute of Finance (affiliated to the people's Bank of China).
In 2007, the University became one of the first batch of "domestic and foreign joint training postgraduate bases of colleges and universities in Beijing".
In April 2010, it was rated as "National Graduate Employment typical experience university" by the Ministry of education. In December, the Ministry of education and the Ministry of Commerce signed an agreement to jointly build the University of foreign economic relations and trade.
On September 20, 2011, the Graduate School of the University of international business and economics was officially established.
In December 2016, it was recognized by Beijing Municipal Education Commission as one of the first batch of demonstration universities in deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform in Beijing.
In September 2017, it was selected into the list of world-class discipline construction universities.
On April 30, 2019, the University of foreign economic relations and trade and Qingdao West Coast new area signed a contract to jointly build the Qingdao International Campus of the University of foreign economic relations and trade.
