Minzu University of China (Minzu University of China) is a famous university in China, a national key university, and a key construction University of "211 Project" and "985 Project". It is located in Haidian District, Beijing, where there are many well-known universities. It is adjacent to the National Library of China in the South and Zhongguancun High Tech Park in the north. Its predecessor was the Institute for Nationalities founded by the Communist Party of China in Yan'an in September 1941. It is the highest institution of education for ethnic minorities in China. Central Institute for Nationalities
The predecessor of the Central University for nationalities is the Institute for Nationalities established in Yan'an in September 1941. The main task of Yan'an University for nationalities is to train minority cadres and Han cadres engaged in ethnic work.
Not long after the founding of the people's Republic of China, in December 1949, according to the development of the situation, especially the needs of national construction, regional ethnic autonomy, the realization of the common program and the implementation of the party's ethnic policy, Mao Zedong made an instruction to cultivate a large number of ethnic minority cadres.
In June 1950, the Central People's government decided to establish a new university in Beijing, the Central Institute for nationalities. A group of comrades who had worked in Yan'an Institute for Nationalities in those years were selected to prepare for its establishment. In November of the same year, Premier Zhou Enlai presided over the 60th Administrative Meeting of the Government Affairs Council and approved the "trial scheme for training ethnic minority cadres" and "trial scheme for organizing the Central Institute for Nationalities" proposed by the Central Commission for ethnic affairs.
On June 11, 1951, the Central Institute for Nationalities officially opened. Zhu De, vice chairman of the Central People's government, and Dong Biwu, vice premier of the State Council, made important speeches at the opening ceremony.
From June 1950 to the end of 1951, the school was temporarily located in Guozijian in the city. There were more than 280 teaching and administrative staff, and more than 260 students in the military and political cadre class and the Tibetan language class.
From 1952 to may 1966, the University began to run a regular school and gradually developed into a liberal arts university. In 1952, when the state carried out the adjustment of colleges and departments, the Department of Sociology of Tsinghua University, some majors of Eastern Language Department of Peking University, and the Department of Sociology of Yanjing University, the predecessor of Peking University, were transferred to the Central Institute for nationalities. The school site was moved from Guozijian to Baishiqiao in the western suburb. After that, the departments of folk language, history, politics, art, Chinese, research and preparatory courses were established. The Counselor's office of the Central Committee for nationalities also went to the Central Institute for nationalities. Graduate education began at the beginning of the 1950s.
From June 1966 to August 1978, the "Cultural Revolution" seriously affected the development of schools. In February 1978, the University was designated as a national key university.
Central University for Nationalities
On November 30, 1993, with the approval of the State Education Commission, the Central University for nationalities was renamed as the Central University for nationalities. Jiang Zemin, then president of the state, inscribed a new name for the University. In 1999, the University was designated as the key construction University of "211 Project". In June 2002, the State Commission for democracy and people's livelihood, the Ministry of education and the Beijing Municipal People's government signed the agreement on the key construction of the Central University for nationalities.
In 2004, the University became the key construction University of "985 Project". In 2012, the national development and Reform Commission approved the construction of the new campus of the Central University for Nationalities and the acquisition of land of 1206 mu for the construction of the new campus in Qinglonghu area, Wangzuo Town, Fengtai District, Beijing.
In 2010, the University became the first batch of Pilot Universities in the national education system reform.
In September 2013, the University was selected as the first batch of demonstration bases for studying in China by the Ministry of education. In February 2015, Fengtai District Education Committee, affiliated middle school and Wangzuo Town People's Government of Fengtai District signed an agreement to jointly build Fengtai experimental school, a middle school affiliated to Central University for nationalities. In September, Lingshui branch of the middle school affiliated to the Central University for nationalities was officially completed. In October, the State Ethnic Affairs Commission and the Ministry of Education decided to jointly build the Central University for nationalities.
In September 2017, the Central University for nationalities was included in the national "double first-class" (world-class university and first-class discipline) list of world-class universities (Class A); on October 24, the State Commission for Nationalities and the people's Government of Hainan Province signed a strategic cooperation agreement to jointly build the Hainan campus of the Central University for nationalities.
In 2018, the University was approved by Beijing Municipal Education Commission as Beijing University Students' entrepreneurship Park.
