Ye's manor in Shangshui county is located in Dengcheng, an ancient town named after Deng AI, the great general of the Three Kingdoms. It is 16 kilometers away from Shangshui county and Zhoukou City. Starting from the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, the Ye family, who made his fortune by water transportation, spent more than half a century and more than a million taels of silver to complete the grand building complex of Ye family manor, which covers an area of 20000 square meters and mainly consists of three courtyards.

Introduction to the manor

Ye's manor in Shangshui county is located in Dengcheng, an ancient town named after Deng AI, the great general of the Three Kingdoms. It is 16 kilometers away from Shangshui county and Zhoukou City. Starting from the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, the Ye family, who made his fortune by water transportation, spent more than half a century and more than a million taels of silver to complete the grand building complex of Ye family manor, which covers an area of 20000 square meters and mainly consists of three courtyards. The 100 group buildings in the west of the house, also known as Zhuanxiang building, are ye's pawnshop yard; the 100 group buildings in the south of the house are ye's grain depot. There are more than 400 buildings in total, all of which are gray brick and tile hard mountain buildings, covering an area of 100 mu. The whole manor building is magnificent, and the scale is spectacular. It has the feeling of "five steps to one floor, ten steps to one Pavilion".

The three main buildings of Ye's manor are typical hard mountain courtyard buildings in China. The overall momentum is magnificent, the layout is rigorous and reasonable, the gate tower is majestic and tall, and the main building is rich and luxurious. Each courtyard is designed according to its function, with different heights and light and bright colors, forming a ups and downs, well arranged, but without losing its unified architectural style. It is one of the most complete and largest Qing Dynasty folk manors in China. It has excellent architectural materials, exquisite workmanship, cornices, brackets, rare animal ridges, brick and wood carvings. It has very important historical, artistic and scientific value. During the period of the Republic of China, Ye's manor was the site of the third district government and the seventh district union normal school in Shangshui county. Most of the buildings were damaged and rebuilt into tile roofed buildings after demolition. There is only one courtyard left in the main house, which is still in good condition. There are 17 tile roofed houses and 70 buildings. In 1986, Henan Provincial People's government announced it as a key cultural relics protection unit at the provincial level. In 2006, it was approved to set up the folk custom museum of Ye's manor in Shangshui county. In May 2013, Ye's manor was approved as the seventh batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council.

Yeshizhuang garden is adjacent to Baiguoshu and Liuxiu horse drinking terrace of Han Dynasty in the East, Shousheng Temple Pagoda of Song Dynasty in the west, and song Temple of millennium in the south. It is less than 10 kilometers away from nanluo Expressway and Luofu railway, and is connected with the county-level oil road passing through the town. It is backed by Shahe, the only inland river in the province, and can reach Nanjing, Hangzhou and Shanghai by boat. When the place name eats Dengcheng, Ye's pig's hooves are famous both inside and outside the province. With its unique style, large-scale architecture, rich chain of cultural attractions and convenient waterway transportation, the number of tourists to Ye's manor is increasing exponentially every year. In 2006, it was rated as one of the top ten favorite tourist attractions by Henan TV and other media.

About ye

Ye was not an official, but a businessman who opened a restaurant. So, how can they become millionaires and have such magnificent manor buildings? There is also a touching story. According to Ye Guoxi, a descendant of the Ye family, and Xia Fuquan, a close neighbor, ye Shaoyi, the ancestor of the Ye family, moved here from Hongdong County, Shanxi Province when he immigrated in the late Ming Dynasty. At that time, Shahe shipping was developed, and Dengcheng town was adjacent to Shahe River, where most of the travelling merchants stayed and transferred. Ye Shaoyi and his wife started a small hotel at Shahe wharf to make a living. One night, a Shaanxi jewelry company came to Dengcheng by boat and stayed here. The next morning, the jeweler hurried West and left a package in the shop. After ye Shaoyi found it, he put it up for the merchants to pick it up. The next year, the jeweler stayed in the shop again. Ye Shaoyi took out the package and returned it to the jeweler. The jeweler looked at Ye Shaoyi and said in surprise, "I've forgotten where I lost this package. I don't want to lose it in your shop. It's really lucky." When the merchant opened the package, it was full of light and jewels. The jeweler was deeply moved by Ye Shaoyi's loyalty and honesty, so he became a brother of the opposite sex with Ye Shaoyi. After that, he repeatedly donated huge sums of money for the Ye family to buy land and build houses, and subsidized other businesses to show his gratitude and friendship. In addition, ye Shaoyi and his wife were industrious and good at business management, so they became local rich.

Later generations of Ye Shaoyi inherited the tradition of diligence and thrift of his ancestors and became rich day by day. During the reign of Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, the Ye family was rich, with thousands of fields and buildings. Ye's former residence is now a town cultural station. In 1986, it was announced as a provincial key cultural relic by Henan Provincial People's government.
