Humanistic information
The white Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva in the nunnery was worshipped by Chen Tongqian (1617-1675), a native of Jingkou village at the foot of the mountain, when he built the nunnery. It is said that during the reign of Chongzhen in the late Ming Dynasty, Chen Tongqian took a boat from Xinxing River to Zhaoqing City for examination. When the boat passed through Zhaoqing City, a wooden statue of Avalokitesvara floated close to the boat and was picked up by Chen Tongqian. He also vowed to wish that if he could be selected in this course, he would surely build a temple to offer rewards when he returned home, and that he would really win the first place in this examination. When he returned to his hometown, he and his younger brother moved to Zhuyuan mountain in the back of the village to build a temple to worship, and later generations continued to maintain and pay homage. The nunnery is located in the mountains, the environment is beautiful and quiet, is a good place for Zen study, so in addition to monks, it also served as a school. During the reign of Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty, Chen Zaiqian (1782-1838), a famous scholar in the south of the five ridges, was the fifth grandson of Chen Tongqian. He served as the imperial edict of Qingyuan County and the supervisor of Guangzhou Yuehua Academy.
