How could the officers and soldiers guarding Penghu of Taiwan bury their tombs on Nan'ao Island? It turns out that Nan'ao was an important military town along the southeast coast in the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Since the fourth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty (1576), the imperial court set up a "deputy commander in chief of Zhang Chao and other places in Nan'ao" to build a town to defend the sea. Although Nan'ao was small, it could deploy the coastal troops of Fujian and Guangdong provinces militarily. In view of the military importance of Nan'ao's geographical location, Nan'ao was promoted to the rank of commander in chief in 1685 At the end of three years, they shall be replaced in turn. " From then on, the officers and men of the South Australia general not only shoulder the mission of guarding South Australia and the southeast coast, but also Taiwan and Penghu. During his tenure, many officers and soldiers died or were killed in battle. They were usually buried on the spot. After waiting for a period of time, they collectively moved the bones back to Nan'ao, where they were buried one by one and carved on a stele. So there are tombs of old soldiers on the hillside near the sea in wupingzhai village. This is a historical witness of the military, political, economic and cultural relationship between the mainland and Penghu. The newly built cemetery covers an area of about 1000 square meters. The main body of the cemetery is "loyal soul". Under the stroke of "loyal soul", there are 199 remains of officers and soldiers of Qing Dynasty who died in duty in xutai and Pengzhou. The original tombstone with the name of the deceased is inlaid between the strokes of "loyal soul". In front of the cemetery are steles and statues of heroes. A two meter high tombstone was erected in the middle of the platform, with the inscription "Tomb of the old soldiers of taipeng in the late Qing Dynasty". There is a pavilion in the rear of the cemetery. Professor Rao Zongyi, a famous sinologist, wrote a book "WangKun Pavilion" and wrote a couplet: "a thousand miles around the sea, a thousand miles away, a hundred homes in paoze.". Because Taiwan has Kunshen and erkunshen In this particular environment, Kun is used as a pronoun for Taiwan, and "Wang" has a deeper meaning, such as gazing, looking forward, hoping, praying and so on. On the other side of the pavilion, the forehead of the pavilion is inscribed with "Yuntai", and the column couplet reads: "xutai made great achievements in the history of Qing Dynasty, protected the country and the future generations. What does "Yuntai" mean? According to historical records, Liu Zhuang, Emperor Xiaoming of the Han Dynasty, painted 28 pictures on the Nangong Yuntai because he felt the meritorious officials of his former life.
