Zhan Tianyou memorial hall is located in the north of Badaling Great Wall in Yanqing County. It is a memorial hall for special characters established to commemorate Zhan Tianyou, a patriot who made outstanding contributions in the history of modern railway construction in China.

Zhan Tianyou Memorial

Zhan Tianyou Memorial Museum, located in the north of Badaling Great Wall in Yanqing District of Beijing, is a memorial hall for special characters built to commemorate Zhan Tianyou who made contributions to the history of modern Chinese railway construction. It was officially completed and opened to the public in November 1987

Zhan Tianyou memorial hall is composed of the hall of admiration, the hall of Prelude and the hall of exhibition, with a total construction area of 2800 square meters and an exhibition area of 1850 square meters. The collection of fine works includes the bronze statue of Zhan Tianyou and various medals of honor.

On July 13, 1995, Zhan Tianyou memorial hall was selected as the first batch of "railway patriotism education base". On November 7, 1995, Zhan Tianyou memorial hall was awarded the honorary title of "science and peace education base".

Historical evolution

In 1962, the Ministry of Railways set up a temporary exhibition room for Zhan Tianyou at Qinglongqiao railway station.

In 1984, the Ministry of Railways set up the Preparatory Committee for the construction of Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall.

In November 1987, Zhan Tianyou memorial hall was officially completed and opened.

On April 10, 1997, the exhibition and renovation work of Zhan Tianyou memorial hall was basically completed, officially receiving tourists.

On April 15, 2003, Zhan Tianyou Memorial checked the cultural relics in its collection to prepare for the re filing and identification of cultural relics.

On June 30, 2003, Zhan Tianyou Memorial took part in the compilation of Beijing chronicle, Beijing Museum chronicle.

On April 23, 2008, Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall reviewed and finalized the outline, and completed the bidding work of exhibition design.

On October 28, 2008, Zhan Tianyou's grandson Wu Jun donated a porcelain Fengming wine pot and some photos of his life.

On August 8, 2009, Zhan Tianyou memorial hall was opened to the public after a comprehensive renovation.

On March 8, 2015, the 300 square meter exhibition hall maintenance and reconstruction project of Zhan Tianyou memorial hall began.

Zhan Tianyou memorial hall is built above the Badaling tunnel of Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway, the first self built railway in China under the leadership of Zhan Tianyou. It is built according to the mountain trend and has a simple shape. It is opposite to the bronze statue and cemetery of Zhan Tianyou at Qinglongqiao railway station inside the Great Wall. There is a huge relief on the building, about 41 meters long and about 5 meters high. The exhibition hall has a construction area of 2800 square meters and a display area of 1850 square meters.

Venue layout

Zhan Tianyou memorial hall is composed of three exhibition halls, namely the hall of admiration, the hall of Prelude and three exhibition halls. It shows Zhan Tianyou's journey from studying, joining in railway construction to defending the road against the Qing Dynasty and supporting the revolution of 1911. At the same time, Zhan Tianyou used surveying and mapping instruments, tools, seals, medals and Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway construction tools.

The main entrance of the hall is the hall of admiration, and inside is an exhibition hall. This hall shows Zhan Tianyou from his childhood abroad to his dedication to the railway to win glory for his country. On the second floor is the second exhibition hall, which shows Zhan Tianyou's construction of the Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway, followed by the construction of the Han, Guangdong and Sichuan railways, and the compilation of China's first set of engineering standard drawings.

The cultural relics in the Zhan Tianyou Memorial Museum are mainly historical photos, engineering drawings, surveying and mapping tools, manuscripts and badges of Zhan Tianyou, including pictures and historical relics reflecting the early history of Chinese Railways such as Beijing Zhangjiakou, Sichuan Han, Guangdong Han, and more than 2000 precious cultural relics related to the early history of Chinese railway construction and Zhan Tianyou's achievements

On April 26, 1996, the Symposium on the 135th anniversary of Zhan Tianyou's birth, jointly organized by Zhan Tianyou memorial hall, China Association of science and technology, European and American students' Association and China Railway Society, was held in the Yunnan Hall of the Great Hall of the people.

On April 28, 1996, the "Zhan Tianyou research academic exchange meeting" jointly sponsored by Zhan Tianyou memorial hall, China Association for science and technology, European and American students association and China Railway Society was held in Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall.

On November 6, 1997, the 10th Anniversary Symposium of Zhan Tianyou memorial hall was held in Beijing Zhongtu building.

On April 18, 2000, Zhan Tianyou memorial hall, Wuhan Erqi Memorial Hall and Wuhan Zhan Tianyou former residence jointly held "Zhan Tianyou and Guangdong Han railway exhibition".

On December 17, 2001, to commemorate the 140th anniversary of Zhan Tianyou's birth, Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall and Liwan District of Guangzhou jointly held the exhibition of Zhan Tianyou's life story.

On April 26, 2004, in commemoration of the 143rd anniversary of Zhan Tianyou's birth, Zhan Tianyou memorial hall, Liwan District Culture Bureau of Guangzhou City and others jointly held the "cultural relics exhibition of the first batch of public children studying in the United States in Xiguan of Guangzhou in the Qing Dynasty" in Shamian.

On October 13, 2005, Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall and Zhangjiakou Municipal Party committee jointly held a large-scale picture and historical data exhibition to commemorate the Centennial construction of Beijing Zhangjiakou Railway in Zhangjiakou Convention and Exhibition Center.

On November 22, 2006, Zhan Tianyou memorial hall held the "itinerant exhibition of Zhan Tianyou's deeds" and the "historical pictures of Zhan Tianyou" exhibition in Tianyou hall in Beijing Jiaotong University.

On May 1, 2007, Zhan Tianyou memorial hall held a special exhibition entitled "Zhan Tianyou and Han Yue Chuan Railway".

On September 15, 2007, Zhan Tianyou memorial hall held a series of popular science wall chart exhibitions of "saving energy and resources, protecting ecological environment, ensuring safety and health".

On August 12, 2011, the "police and people's co construction activities in commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Zhan Tianyou's birth" held by Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall and Guolian resources network was held in Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall.

On April 26, 2016, "inherit Zhan Tianyou's spirit and create more brilliance in Beijing and Zhangjiakou -- a symposium to commemorate the 155th anniversary of Zhan Tianyou's birthday" was held at Zhan Tianyou Memorial Hall

On July 13, 1995, Zhan Tianyou memorial hall was named the first batch of "railway patriotism education base".
