Return hall, the former residence of Mr. Tan Kah Kee, is a single story building with unique style. It is built with white stone walls and covered with green tiles. The origin of history
It is located on Jiageng Road, Jimei Town, Xiamen City, Fujian Province, to the south of Tan Jiageng's former residence. It was built in 1962. Mr. Tan Kah Kee had a wish during his lifetime: in order to call on overseas relatives to remember their hometown and love their motherland, he wanted to have a gathering place when he came back. He wanted to build a "return hall" in front of his former residence, with the construction cost of no more than 30000 yuan. After the death of Mr. Chen, Premier Zhou Enlai learned of this situation, thought it was of great significance, and instructed to realize Mr. Chen's wishes and expand the construction scale as a permanent memorial. On the first anniversary of the death of Mr. Tan Kah Kee in 1962, the sunset became the "return hall", with a construction area of more than 4000 square meters. "Return hall" is composed of hall, worship Pavilion, reception room, wing room and courtyard. The main body is palace style hall with rich national characteristics. The hall and wing room are equipped with complete sets of food and living equipment for the return of overseas relatives.
Park facilities
The garden is in front of the "Hall of return". It is built to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the founding of Jimei school by Mr. Tan Kah kee. It covers an area of 14 mu with a bronze statue of Mr. Chen Kah Kee in the garden. The bronze statue weighs about 1 ton, is 2.3 meters high, and its base is 0.6 meters high. The bronze statue stands in the center of the back part of the "return garden" in front of the "return hall", looking forward to the return of overseas relatives. The bronze statue is set in a 3-meter-high and 7-meter-wide granite screen with eight gold-plated characters inscribed with Mao Zedong's inscription: "overseas Chinese leaders, national glory". Shining Mr. Tan Kah Kee's glorious image. On the left and right sides of the bronze statue are green trees, grass and flower beds. In front of the statue is a road paved with square stones, leading to the distance of return.
Overview of characters
Tan Kah Kee (1874-1961), a famous overseas Chinese entrepreneur in Southeast Asia in the first half of the 20th century, was born in the small fishing village of Jimei. When he was young, he went to Singapore to do business with his father. He was successful in pineapple planting, processing, rubber and manufacturing. Like many overseas Chinese patriots, Tan Kah Kee did not forget his suffering motherland after he became rich. He wanted to "do his duty as a member of the people". In addition to joining the alliance, supporting Sun Yat Sen to engage in revolutionary activities, and investing in the establishment of Jimei school and Xiamen University, hoping to "save the country through education", he also led the overseas Chinese society to carry out vigorous development after the Jinan massacre in 1928 Strong anti Japanese and national salvation movement.
Tips
