Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province
Located in Wenming Road, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Provincial Zhongshan Library is a comprehensive public library of Guangdong Province. It is the location of Guangdong Provincial sub center of national cultural information resource sharing project, Guangdong Provincial ancient book protection center, and Guangdong Provincial sub center of National Library joint Cataloging Center. It is a national key ancient book protection unit. In May 2018, it was rated as a national first-class library.
Guangdong Provincial Zhongshan Library was founded in 1912, formerly known as "Nanyuan" in Yangcheng of Ming Dynasty, and later as the collection building of Guangya book company of Qing Dynasty. It was named Guangdong Provincial Library in July 1917, merged into Guangzhou Municipal Zhongshan Library in October 1933, renamed Guangdong People's Library in July 1950, and joined Guangzhou Municipal Zhongshan Library in May 1955 Zhongshan Library was officially merged into Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province; in 2002, Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province was renamed Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province.
By the end of 2017, Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province had collected 8.6118 million volumes (pieces) of general literature, including 8.4701 million volumes of paper literature (6.8975 million volumes of general books, including 270700 volumes of Foreign Books), 117100 pieces of audio-visual literature and 24600 pieces of microfabrics. There are about 24600 kinds of journals and 885900 volumes of electronic literature (including e-books, e-newspapers, video databases, etc.) totaling about 8.6447 million volumes.
Historical evolution
In the second year of Xuantong, Guangdong library was organized.
In July 1912, Guangdong library opened in Guangya Book cave, 62 jinwende Road, Juxian square, Wenming gate, Fucheng, Guangzhou.
In March 1916, the Guangdong library was withdrawn by the authorities, and its books were only kept as antiquities. It didn't recover until July of the following year. It is also named Guangdong Provincial Library.
On October 19, 1933, Guangzhou Municipal Zhongshan Library was the most spectacular public library in Guangzhou at that time. A few months later, the authorities ordered the Guangdong Provincial Library to be merged into the Guangzhou Municipal Zhongshan Library because it was very close to the Guangzhou Municipal Zhongshan Library.
On November 11, 1941, Guangdong Provincial Library was officially opened to readers.
In July 1950, Guangdong Provincial Library was renamed Guangdong People's library.
In May 1955, Guangdong People's Library and Guangzhou Zhongshan Library were formally merged into Guangdong Zhongshan Library. Zhongshan Library for short.
Therefore, the former Guangdong People's library is called the South library, and the former Guangzhou Zhongshan Library is called the North library.
In March 1971, the library, which had been closed for several years, reopened.
In 1981, the people's Government of Guangdong Province approved the relocation of Zhongshan Library
On November 12, 1986, the new museum was opened. In 1988, Beiguan was renamed Sun Yat Sen literature museum.
In 2002, Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province was renamed Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province.
In 2003, the reconstruction and expansion project of Zhongshan Library was officially established.
On December 30, 2010, the first phase of reconstruction and expansion project was completed.
In April 2011, the first provincial donation and Book Exchange Center and Guangdong donation and Book Exchange Center were built in Zhongshan Library.
On July 23, 2019, the second phase of the reconstruction and expansion project of Guangdong Zhongshan Library was completed and accepted.

Ancient books and documents
By the end of 2017, Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province had more than 30000 kinds of ancient books and 470000 volumes, including more than 30000 rare books, nearly 30000 ordinary ancient books, more than 200000 Jinshi documents, and more than 100000 series books.
As of 2016, 172 rare ancient books have been included in the national precious ancient books list. There are Qing history documents and Republic of China documents in the library, including Qing history materials, late Qing and Republic of China newspapers, Republic of China paperback books and photocopies of Qing and Republic of China documents.
Foreign language books and periodicals

There are more than 400000 books of Guangdong Local Chronicles, genealogies, Guangdong historical materials, Guangdong People's writings, newspapers, periodicals, maps, etc. The more distinctive ones are more than 2600 new and old local chronicles, more than 900 new and old genealogies, more than 4000 Sun Yat Sen's documents and old Guangdong maps, etc.
Microfilm literature
According to the official website of the library in April 2020, the Guangdong Provincial Zhongshan Library has completed the digital scanning of 2400 kinds of microfilm, about 2.1 million photos, including 937 kinds of rare ancient books, about 460000 photos; 968 kinds of periodicals, about 850000 photos during the period of the Republic of China; 490 kinds of newspapers, about 600000 photos before liberation; 5 kinds of newspapers, about 200000 photos after the founding of new China. A full-text database of about 1.1 million microfilm documents has been built, including the bibliography database, the full-text database of microfilm documents, and the retrieval database of microfilm document catalogue.

According to the official website of the library in April 2020, Zhongshan Library of Guangdong Province covers wired and wireless networks with 10 Gigabit backbone and Gigabit desktop. The total export bandwidth of Internet is 300m, the total storage capacity is more than 280tb, more than 90 servers and more than 600 terminals / set. Digital library applications cover PC portal, mobile portal, touch screen, RFID self-service loan and return equipment, SMS platform, wechat, app, microblog and other network user terminals. We independently develop NFC self-service library client, and take the lead in providing readers with self-service library services based on mobile NFC.
In 2017, it received 4.68 million readers entering the library, with an average daily service of 1.56 million readers, including 387000 readers receiving loan service, 3.656 million readers receiving reading service, and 613000 readers participating in reader activities.
