50th anniversary of the fire administration office of the Ministry of industry
This book not only reviews the early fire fighting in the concession (1852-1866), but also records in detail the development of the fire administration office of the Ministry of industry in the form of Yearbook (1866-1916). Through this book, we can see the rapid development of fire fighting in the concession: at the beginning of its establishment, the fire administration office had only four fire brigades, including more than 100 Chinese and 138 foreign members. By the end of 1916. 17 fire brigades have been set up successively, with annual fire fighting expenses of more than 1.13 million yuan, and the number of fire alarm records has increased from seven in 1869 to more than 300. The record of the memorial book is very detailed, so we can study the history of Shanghai fire protection from many angles. In addition, historical studies such as the evolution of fire protection regulations in the concession, the merger and separation of fire protection in the public concession and the French Concession can be found in this book.
Wooden double barrel manual pump
The wooden double barrel pump used in the late Qing Dynasty, also known as lever pump, was composed of water gun, pressure beam, steam drum, water tank, etc. When fighting a fire, the water bearer continuously pours the nearest water into the bucket, and then continuously pushes the pressure beam up and down, and the water pumped up is sprayed to the fire along the water gun. The advantage of this kind of water pump is that it can spray water continuously, which was called "water dragon" by people at that time.
The first batch of fire hydrants in Shanghai
The fire hydrant (middle) in our museum was originally used in Longmen Road, Huangpu District. The lower column is engraved with the words "s.f.b. 1881". S.f.b. is the abbreviation of Shanghai fire brigade, which is the abbreviation of Fire Administration Office of Shanghai public concession. 1881 is the year of manufacture of the fire hydrant, two years earlier than the completion and operation of Yangshupu water plant in 1883. According to research, this is the first batch of fire hydrants to appear on the streets of Chinese cities.
Fire fighting Federation helmet
With the rapid expansion of Shanghai, the traditional fire fighting power of Shantang is not enough. In 1907, the "fire fighting Federation of China" came into being, writing a new chapter of modern Chinese fire fighting. The picture shows the copper fire helmet used by China fire fighting Association.
Winner's Shield
In addition to daily training, the concession fire brigade also regularly organizes fire fighting contests to stimulate the morale of the fire brigade and enhance its professional level. The winning award shield you see now is set up by the concession authorities to reward the winning teams in the competition. It records the names of the winning teams and their main players at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century.
