Jingdong Shilin Gorge Scenic Spot

Shilin gorge is located in Pinggu District, 70km northeast of Beijing. It is the core scenic spot of huangsongyu Geopark. It is named after the four steep Shilin peaks in the gorge. With a total length of 6 kilometers, an area of 12 square kilometers and more than 50 landscapes, the scenic spot is a national AAAA scenic spot.

In Shilin gorge, the five characteristics of stone, gorge, water, peak and forest constitute a unique landscape and each has its own characteristics. The four major features of Shilin gorge are enjoying the stone forest in the north, watching the nine sky waterfall, touring the canyon and dangerous peaks, and searching for the stone forest. The stone forest here is high and steep, with upright roots. Huge stones and strange stones are all over the valley. The whole Canyon is lush with trees, strange pines and cypresses. The long Canyon is quiet and beautiful, dotted with nine waterfalls and eighteen pools. It is like a vivid natural picture. It is quite magnificent in the north and beautiful in the south of the Yangtze River. There are two stone forests in the East and the west of Shilin gorge, which are amazing. From a distance, they are magnificent, and from a close view, they are different in shape and colorful. Some of them are like giant pens, some of them are like jade shoots, some of them are like spears and halberds, some of them are like lions, some of them are like jade maidens, monkey exploring the moon, dragon and jade pillars, and old elephants coming out of the mountain. There is a poem praising: "I knew that Shilin was born in the south, so I knew how to study.".

Three wonders of stone forest

The first drum of China

Shilin Gorge's first Chinese drum is 90cm long, 105cm long and 400kg in weight. It is made of pure copper. The drum was meticulously cast by Jiangsu artists in 7749 days. The drum was transported from the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain. It took 40 people one month to transport it here. It can be described as painstaking. No matter the casting process, volume and weight, or the terrain, the quality and volume of the drum are unique in China, so it is known as the first drum in China.

The first Gong of the Olympic Games

The first Gong of Shilin gorge Olympic Games is specially made for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. The Gong, with a diameter of 2008mm, is made of pure bronze. It has a strong voice and can be heard everywhere.

The first bell of ancient and modern times

Shilin gorge ancient and modern first bell is made by imitating ancient musical instrument Bianzhong. The bell is composed of five 6712356712 double tone Bianzhong with diameters of 23.6cm, 26.54cm, 29.8cm, 33.5cm and 37.7cm, which can play F key. The sound is clear and melodious. Compared with ancient unearthed musical instruments, the production technology of the bell can be confused with the real, and its volume and weight are rare in history. Therefore, the first bell of ancient and modern times can be obtained good reputation.

Shilin mountain

Shilin peak is geologically known as the peak forest landform of quartz sandstone. It is composed of quartz sandstone 1.4 billion years ago. The quartz content in the rock is more than 90%. The hard iron and silicon cemented quartz. The chemical properties of quartz, iron and silicon cementation are very stable in the supergene environment, with strong erosion resistance, forming a solid base of the peak column. In the thick quartz sandstone, there are a number of thin and narrow silty weak layers, which have weak resistance to weathering and erosion, greatly reducing the firmness of the peak column, which is conducive to the sculpture modeling of a single peak column, and provides sufficient conditions for the formation of many lifelike and anthropomorphic landform modeling.

Based on the characteristics of quartz sandstone, when affected by geological structure, the faults or fissures with different directions, properties and scales crisscross in the sandstone layer. Under the influence of wind, water and gravity, the fissures widen and deepen continuously, forming peak cluster and peak forest landform.

XiaGu stone

After getting married to Sanlang, XiaGu lived a happy life. Soon the border was in a hurry, and Sanlang enlisted in the army, saying goodbye to XiaGu.

At this time, a dragon banished from the heaven escaped the suppression and played in the landscape of Shilin gorge. One day, he ran into Xia Gu and was moved by her beauty, so he often came to disturb her for no reason. In the face of XiaGu's righteous words, Jiaolong became angry and imprisoned XiaGu here. The stubborn Xia Gu refused to compromise and gave in. With the missing of Sanlang, she died on this rock.

In memory of this lovely girl, people call this stone "XiaGu stone".

A thousand stones on one's back

It is said that the intelligent and beautiful Xia Gu and the simple and honest woodcutter Sanlang were childhood sweethearts and fell in love. When Xia Gu Chang came out of the cabinet, many eunuch children came to propose marriage one after another, which worried Xia Gu and Sanlang who were secretly in love.

Xia Gu can't disobey her parents' orders to choose her future husband from the suitors, and she is secretly determined to spend her life with Saburo. What should we do?

The clever Xia Gu suddenly had a plan and proposed that if anyone could carry the stone in front of her, she would agree to his proposal. Those suitors who only have glory and wealth have no such ability, so they have no choice but to look at the stone and sigh. So, in full view of the public, with a good strength from childhood, Sanlang resolutely picked up the big stone.

A lover will get married, and this huge stone has become a witness of the faithful love between XiaGu and Sanlang.

Features of scenic spots

One is the steep peaks and upright roots in the valley, such as the stone forest. A poem praises: "I knew that the stone forest was born in the south, so far I knew how to study.";

The second is Jiutian waterfall, which is a four-level waterfall. The fall of the highest waterfall is more than 40 meters, and the total fall of the waterfall is more than 80 meters;

The third is to erect a cliff and hang cypresses. The cliff in Shilin gorge is high and steep. There are countless cypresses and other tree species on the high cliff. The tree trunks slant out on the cliff, and the tree roots cling to the cliff. No matter what the wind or rain, they can't do. It's amazing;

Fourth, there are huge stones, some of which are more than 1000 tons, all over the gorge. These huge stones either stand on the high cliff, making people tremble, or stand on the slope, suspecting that they want to fall, or lie at the bottom of the valley, like a giant rhinoceros, or in the middle of the road, sitting on the top of it is full of wonders;

Fifth, the gorge is dangerous. The narrowest part of the gorge is only 6-7 meters. If you open a line, you can walk under it;

Six is lingtan. There are more than ten pools of water in the valley. The water is inexhaustible all the year round, like a string of beautiful pearls, which adds endless beauty to Shilin gorge.

Cause of formation

Shilin gorge belongs to Pinggu area. It is located at the intersection of the southern foot of Yanshan and the northern end of North China Plain. It is a part of Yanshan subsidence zone of North China platform in China's tectonic division. In the early Mesoproterozoic Great Wall period, which is geologically known as 1.85 billion years ago, the crust of the whole Yanshan area split along the east-west direction and sank to form a kind of rift trough, in which Shilin Gorge Scenic Area is located. With the passage of time, the rift trough continues to deepen and expand, and the sea water invades from east to west, inundating the whole area where the Geopark is located. Huangsongyu Geopark has become a vast ocean. The mud, sand and carbonate materials carried by seawater are deposited in the coastal shallow sea area of the park. With the advance of time, these sediments form quartz sandstone, shale and dolomite.

By 1.4 billion years ago, the crust of the Yanshan subsidence zone rose, and the sea water slowly withdrew from it. After the crustal uplift in this period, the whole huangsongyu Geopark finally ended the history of marine development and evolution, and began the development of land. In the following years, it experienced many strong crustal movements, the most intense of which occurred 160 million years ago, which is also a major crustal movement in the geological history of eastern China. The Yanshan movement further changed the ancient strata of the Geopark, which suffered from weathering and denudation, resulting in the development of joints in three groups of vertical planes of quartz sandstone and crisscross fracture of rocks. Isolated mountain peaks, sand peak forest landforms of different sizes, heights and shapes are gradually formed.
