National Urban Wetland Park
National Urban Wetland Park is an urban wetland park approved by the Ministry of housing and urban rural development of the people's Republic of China (MOHURD) within the scope of urban planning area, with the purpose of protecting urban wetland resources and functions of science popularization education, scientific research, leisure and tourism.
About the park
Wetland refers to the natural or artificial, long-term or temporary swamp, peatland or water area, with static or flowing fresh water, brackish water and salty water, including the water area with a depth of less than 6 meters at low tide.
Wetland resources refer to the biological resources that inhabit, reproduce and survive in wetlands and attached wetlands.
Urban wetland refers to the natural, semi natural or artificial water land transition ecosystem which is in line with the above definition of wetland and distributed in the urban planning area, and is part of the urban ecosystem.
Urban Wetland Park is a kind of park green space with the functions of science popularization education, scientific research, leisure and sightseeing in the scope of urban planning area for the purpose of protecting urban wetland resources.
approval criteria
Urban wetland shall be comprehensively protected and managed at different levels. Urban wetland parks with the following conditions may apply for the establishment of National Urban Wetland Parks:
(1) Within the scope of the urban planning area, it is in line with the urban wetland resources protection and development plan, the land use right is uncontroversial, and the green line has been demarcated and disclosed as required;
(2) Wetland ecosystem or main ecological function is typical; or wetland biodiversity is rich; or wetland biological species are unique; or wetland is faced with threats such as area reduction, function degradation and biodiversity reduction, so it is urgent to protect wetland;
(3) Wetland area accounts for more than 50% of the total area of the park.
List of Parks
The first batch of National Urban Wetland Parks
The first batch of National Urban Wetland Park (February 2005): sanggouwan National Urban Wetland Park, Rongcheng City, Shandong Province. Sanggouwan wetland is located at the easternmost end of Shandong Peninsula, which is the most open bay in Shandong Province, covering an area of 150.3 square kilometers. The Northern Cape of the bay is the rock Cape of qingyutan, and the southern cape is the island sandbar. There is a sandbar on the top of the Bay and a lagoon inside the sandbar. The mouth of the bay is 11 km wide and 5-10 m deep. The sediment is mainly sand and some reefs protrude.

The eighth batch of National Urban Wetland Parks
On August 7, 2012, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development of the State Council approved the qinggeda Lake Wetland Park in Wujiaqu City, the Sixth Agricultural Division of Xinjiang production and Construction Corps, and the riverside Urban Wetland Park in Shouguang City, Shandong Province as the National Urban Wetland Park.
The ninth batch of National Urban Wetland Parks
On November 1, 2012, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development of the State Council approved Guiyang Hongfeng Lake Baihua Lake Urban Wetland Park and Zhangye Gaotai Heihe Wetland Park as national urban wetland parks.
The tenth batch of National Urban Wetland Parks
On December 20, 2013, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development of the State Council approved Guanyintang Wetland Park, Erguna Urban Wetland Park, Shijiuyang Wetland Park and Dongguan urban wetland park in Bishan County of Chongqing as national urban wetland parks.
The 11th batch of National Urban Wetland Parks
On March 19, 2015, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development of the State Council approved shengxihu Urban Wetland Park in Xiaoyi City, Shanxi Province, Wudalianchi volcano Urban Wetland Park in Heilongjiang Province, Wuxing xishanyang Urban Wetland Park in Huzhou City, Zhejiang Province, and Langzhong ancient city wetland park in Sichuan Province as national urban wetland parks.

On January 11, 2017, the Ministry of housing and urban rural development of the State Council approved dayangwan Urban Wetland Park in Yancheng City, Jiangsu Province, Xihu Urban Wetland Park in Tongling City, Anhui Province, Dayawan mangrove Urban Wetland Park in Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, bailuwan Urban Wetland Park in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province, and Huangguoshu Urban Wetland Park in Anshun City, Guizhou Province as national urban wetland parks.
