Dengfeng bridge is located on the Hengjiang river of Yanqian town at the north foot of Qiyun mountain in Xiuning County. It is the only way to climb Qiyun mountain, one of the four famous religious mountains in China. The bridge has become an auspicious place. As the saying goes, "if you look at the Dengfeng bridge, you will have a long-term vision. If you walk on the Dengfeng bridge, you will live a long life." In 24 years, the county magistrate Lu point was rebuilt. In 32 years, the bridge collapsed and the county magistrate Li qiaodai rebuilt. After the restoration, Zhang rumao, the magistrate, repaired it again. The bridge between Kangxi in Qing Dynasty was destroyed and rebuilt in 1718. In 1788, the bridge was washed down by the flood and the rubble was not left. In the 56th year of Qianlong (1791), Hu Xuezi, a native of Xi, was the sole owner of the reconstruction. During the period of the Republic of China, the masses of the county donated 30000 Jin of rice for renovation.
The bridge has eight piers and nine holes. The piers are boat shaped. The arch hole spacing is 14 meters. The bridge is 147 meters long, 8 meters wide and 9.5 meters high. The approach bridges at both ends are 16 meters long and all made of bluestone. The bridge deck is paved with flat stones, with 0.9-meter-high stone railings on both sides, and the arch ring is a semi-circular fixed end arch. There used to be pavilions and temples on the bridge, but now they have been destroyed. At the south end of the bridge, there is a stone archway with two pillars, which is written with the words "Dengfeng bridge". At the north end of the bridge stands a "Junshi" forbidden stele in the main hall of Huizhou government in the Qing Dynasty. The full text reads as follows: "it is strictly forbidden to push a cart to dry, it is not allowed to simmer and expose dirt, it is not allowed to sharpen a knife on the fence, and it is forbidden to poke fish at the foot of the bridge. If you dare to violate it, you will be punished."
Historical allusions
In 1587, the governor of Huizhou, Gu Zhixian, initiated the construction. On the day of the completion of the bridge, the ancient magistrate came by car. At the time of the celebration, the imperial envoy also arrived. He promoted the ancient sage to the Deputy envoy of Guangdong Province. The people of the county felt his virtue and politics, wished the ancient sage to be appointed a high official and ascended step by step, so they named the bridge "Dengfeng bridge".
