Beijincheng site
Beijincheng site is located in Sanchaji on the West Bank of Xiangjiang River, where Nanchong village of Gushan Township in Wangcheng County borders Yuehua village of Yuelushan Township in the suburb of Changsha. In shuijingzhu written by Li Daoyuan in the Northern Wei Dynasty, "there is an old city in the northwest of the city, which is the new governance of Linxiang County, and Beijin city in the northwest of the county governance." in Changsha County governance written by Tong Zhi in the Qing Dynasty, "Tucheng mountain is located in the north of the first three branches of Hexi capital, with eight or nine li of Zhouji" just like a city corridor. There are roads in and out on all sides, such as city gates, so it is called Tucheng. Its mountain wall is extremely steep, with a height of five or six feet, and a height of three or four feet. " After more than 2000 years of wind and rain, the earth built city wall is still magnificent, and the traces of rammed earth can be seen. There is a natural gap in the north and south of the city wall, which is known as the "South Gate" and "North Gate". The city is protected by water, with Xiangjiang River in the East and Gushan Mountain in the West. The city wall is surrounded by paddy fields and ponds, which should be the original protected river. The whole city site is about 500000 m2. In the 1980s, bronzes and pottery from the Warring States period to the early Han Dynasty were excavated near the city wall, which has been listed as a provincial cultural relic protection unit.
geographical position
Beijincheng site is located in Sanchaji, Yuelu District, Changsha City. It is close to Gu mountain in the West and Xiangjiang River in the East. The whole city site is triangular, covering an area of about 500000 square meters. There is an earthen wall about 2100 meters long in the northwest and southwest of the site. The rammed earth wall is high in the South and low in the north with trapezoidal cross section. The south section is about 14 meters wide at the bottom, 7-8 meters wide at the top and 10 meters high; the north section is about 8 meters wide at the bottom, 4 meters wide at the top and 5-6 meters high. There is a natural gap between the north and south sides of the wall, commonly known as "North Gate" and "South Gate". Surrounded by a series of ponds outside the city wall, it should be the remains of the original moat. The topography of the city is uneven. There is a long paddy field from the north gate to the South and east of the city, which is close to the river. It may be the remains of the original waterways in the city.
Modern development
Since 1981, the Changsha cultural relics team has carried out many investigations and some trial excavations in and around the city wall. In the rammed earth of the city wall and near the city wall, a number of relics from the Warring States period to the early Western Han Dynasty have been excavated, including the Warring States copper, the Western Han Dynasty tube tile, the plate tile, the tile and so on. To the north of the city, there is a mound on which a number of tombs of the middle Western Han Dynasty are found. In the northwest of the city is the valley mountain range of Wangcheng County. There is a small flat between the two peaks about 1.5km across the city site, commonly known as "anziping". A large number of tiles and tiles of the Western Han Dynasty were excavated in pingzhong, and a number of tombs of the Western Han Dynasty were also found at the foot of the hill. There is a solitary mountain about 100 meters southwest of the city, commonly known as "Donggua mountain". From the foot of the mountain to the top of the mountain, the fragments of the tube tiles and tiles of the Western Han Dynasty can be seen everywhere. Archaeological materials prove that this is the ancient city site of the Western Han Dynasty.
