Located at the southern end of Xiyu Island, Xiyu Lighthouse (also known as yuwengdao lighthouse) was built of granite in 1778. There is a long-lasting light on the top of the lighthouse. The lighthouse on Xiyu island still retains precious antiquities of the old lighthouse period, such as stone gourd, fog cannon, stone reservoir, etc., while the natural geographical environment and natural scenery of the lighthouse have not been changed for a hundred years. There is an exhibition room next to the lighthouse, which shows the history of the lighthouse on Xiyu island and introduces the lighthouses all over Taiwan. Lighthouse history
Built in 1778, it is the earliest lighthouse in Taiwan.
On April 17, 1985, it was designated as a class II historic site by the Ministry of the interior.
Lighthouse monuments
There are three stone tablets and one cross tablet in the lighthouse courtyard, as follows:
In 1778, a stone tablet named "building a lamp tablet on Xiyu pagoda" was erected.
In 1779, the 44th year of Qianlong reign of the Qing Dynasty, a stone tablet was set up to record the completion of the building of the lamp on the West Lantau tower.
In 1828, a total of five hundred yuan of Buddhist silver was donated by all parties, and a stone tablet named "Xiyu pagoda lamp stele" was erected by (Sun Defa, Penghu naval Association Town, Fujian Province, and Jiang Yong, the governor of houbu Prefecture, Penghu).
In 1880, a cross stele of foreigners was erected on the west wall, which bears the name of "Nelly O'Driscoll", or the tomb of the wife or daughter of a foreign lighthouse keeper.
There are also three cast iron fog cannons in the courtyard of the lighthouse, which were set up in 1875 in the first year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty
