Development history
There is Qixingyan reef in the open sea near oluanbi. In the past, ships unfamiliar with the nearby waters often hit the reef and sank. In 1867 (the sixth year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty), an American merchant ship lost its way in a storm on its way from Shantou to Niuzhuang. It drifted to the reef near Qixingyan and sank. After the captain and his wife and crew swam ashore, they were captured and killed by the aborigines of guizijiao Society (sheding), except one Chinese crew member who fled to beat dogs. Ryukyu fishermen were also killed in the South Cape area, which led to the incident of Peony Society. Therefore, the American and Japanese governments asked the Qing Dynasty to set up lighthouses here.
Under diplomatic pressure, in 1875, the Qing government commissioned Bi Qili, a member of the Royal Geographical Society of Britain, to go to Langqiao (today's Hengchun) area to survey the lighthouse site on June 18, and paid 100 silver Liang to buy the land for the lighthouse from the aborigines of guizijiao society. The lighthouse was started in 1881 and completed in 1883. As the local area is the territory of the indigenous people, the government also sent 500 troops to guard it before and after the construction.
The height from the high tide surface to the center of the light is 56.4 meters. The white circular iron tower is divided into five layers. The first layer stores kerosene, the second layer is equipped with green guns, the third layer is a rest place for foreigners, the fourth layer is equipped with banyan guns, and the fifth layer is the light source of the lighthouse It is 6500 candlelight, and the light distance can reach 10 Li. After four modifications, today in 1998, 1500 candlelight bulbs are increased to 1.8 million candlelight after a large rotating lens, and the illumination distance reaches 27.2 Li. It is the most powerful lighthouse in Taiwan.
Later, after the Sino Japanese War of 1895, before the Qing army left Taiwan, Ouyang Xuan, the magistrate of Hengchun County, was ordered to secretly burn the erluan nose lamp tower, stone wall and stone road Wharf in southern Taiwan. The lighthouse was destroyed on September 13. In 1898, the renovation of the lighthouse was completed. In 1904, a telephone line was set up for the lighthouse, which was the first telephone in Hengchun area. During World War II, the lighthouse was damaged by Allied air strikes. After reconstruction in 1962, the tower was 24.1 meters high, and the top of the tower was replaced with a new large fourth class rotating lens electric lamp. After passing through the large rotating lens, the light power was 1800000 candlelight, flashing every ten seconds, and the irradiation distance reached 27.2 Li. It is the lighthouse with the strongest light power in Taiwan, known as "the light of East Asia".
E-luanbi is the southern tip of Taiwan. It belongs to the coral reef limestone terrain, so the geographical landscape is very strange. There are strange rocks, giant reefs and caves, and the sea view is unique. It is regarded as one of the "Eight Sights of Taiwan". In 1982, e'luanbi Park was established, with the lighthouse as the main body, and a scenic area of 50 hectares was planned.
