Wenchang Pavilion
Simen Cave (Wenchang Pavilion) is the second largest building in the ancient castle complex in Baozili, Zhangjiakou. It was first built in 1618, the 46th year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty, with a history of more than 390 years. In Wenchang's "Si men Dong", there are four streets in the East, West, South and north of Gulou, so it is commonly known as Si men Dong. Wenchang Pavilion worships Wenqu star, also known as "Wenxing", the God who dominates the fame and position. In the third year of Renzong Yanyou (1316) of the Yuan Dynasty, Zitong emperor was granted the title of "Fuwen Kaihua Wenchang Si luhongren emperor", which was called "Wenchang emperor". Wenchang Pavilion is an important landmark building in Ming Dynasty. It is a square, facing south in the north. The base is made of stone and brick. It is 14 or 50 meters long from north to South and 14 or 57 meters wide from east to west, covering an area of 211 or 26 square meters. The original height of the platform foundation is 8 meters, but now it is 7 or 2 meters due to the underlying height of the platform foundation.
Eight trigrams stone
The center of the door opening is the dome, on which there is a carved eight trigrams stone as the upper center. There are big red characters on the top of the four doors of the pier and abutment, which are called Wenchang Pavilion in the south, Zhonglou in the north, Gulou in the East and shanlou in the West. The second floor of the bell and drum and the flagpole were demolished in the early years, and now the stone foundations on both sides are clear. Wenchang Pavilion is about 7.5 meters high, with a single eaves and a tile roof. It is made of yellow and green colored glass with a ridge. It is three rooms wide and two rooms deep. At the top, there are nine ridges kissing beast, cornice wing angle, Dou Qiao and ang Gong. According to the on-the-spot investigation by Gao Hongbin, an archaeologist of the Municipal Bureau of culture, ink was found under the main ridge, with the words of "establishment in the fourth year of Wanli in the Ming Dynasty". According to the date, it is estimated that Wenchang Pavilion was built in 1618, 191 years later than the castle, 360 years ago.
