Huili Temple
Huili temple is located at the south foot of Xiashi Xishan. It was built by Zhang Yanguang, the Minister of state of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (373-375), during the reign of Ningkang. It was destroyed in war at the end of Tang Dynasty. It was rebuilt in the second year of Qiande in the Northern Song Dynasty (964). Song Dazhong Xiangfu two years (1009) granted the amount of Huili temple. At that time, shanmenloudian Chan hall was called Hongchang, surrounded by 72 monk rooms up and down the west mountain. It was repaired several times in yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. During the Qingming Festival in 1926, the temple was destroyed by fire, leaving only the main hall. In the early 1980s, the main hall was rebuilt, retaining a bit of the atmosphere of Sanskrit words in the past.
During the Wei, Jin and southern and Northern Dynasties, Buddhism was protected by the emperors, and it became fashionable for dignitaries to build temples and houses, which made Sakyamuni prosperous. From 214 to 519, there were Jingyan temple, Jingxiang temple, Xingshan Temple (Jiaxing), JinSu temple, Faxi temple, Zisheng Temple (Haiyan), Huili Temple (Haining Xiashi), miyin temple, Chongfu temple, Zhiyuan temple, Fuyan Temple (Tongxiang), Ciyun Temple (Jiashan Weitang) and Changfu Temple (Pinghu). Most of these monasteries have long been destroyed, and the existing Huili temple is the oldest site of the Jin Dynasty.
Two Tang Dynasty stone Scripture buildings related to Huili temple were built in 874 ad. The building is 4.9 meters high and has eight sides, with xumizuo at the bottom. It is covered with a canopy and a lotus top. It is engraved with Zunsheng Sutra and a lotus animal face. This shows the art of "Tang carving".
