Six tombs of Yuan Ji

Yuan Ji's six tombs are located in menggong village, Luohong Township, longhui County, Hunan Province. Yuan Jilu (1868-1932) was a Chinese language teacher of Mao Zedong when he was studying in Hunan First Normal University. Mao Zedong respected him very much. The tombstone was inscribed by Mao Zedong himself.

Yuan Ji's six tombs are in menggong village, Luohong Township, longhui County, Hunan Province. The tombstone of Mao Zedong's personal letters in 1953 is "the tomb of Mr. Yuan Ji Liu". Now the tombstone is a stone pagoda with a square base. The body of the pagoda is built with Xiangbai jade. The front of the pagoda is inlaid with a marble tablet and engraved with the inscription "Tomb of Mr. Yuan Ji Liu" written by Mao Zedong. On May 27, 1932, Mr. Yuan Jiliu died of illness at the age of 64. Buried in the snake head of menggong village, Luohong Township, longhui County. In October 1952, Mao Zedong wrote a personal letter to "the tomb of Mr. Yuan Ji Liu". The people's Government of Hunan Province appropriated funds to rebuild the tomb. In 1980, Yuan Yuqi, the eldest son of yuan, invited Guo Moruo, Zhang Shizhao, Wang Jifan and Zhou Shizhao at a banquet in Zhongnanhai in the spring of 1965. During the banquet, Zhang and Guo recalled yuan Shishi's time. They said that "this old man is familiar with ancient and modern literature and history" and "he teaches the world's talents". Form a five character couplet "pass the ancient and modern literature and history, teach the world talents", engraved on the stone pillar beside the tomb, to commemorate.

The tombstone is a stone pagoda. On the base of the pagoda, a base is built. It is square, 4 meters long and 1 meter high. On the base of the pagoda, three Ruyi steps are built. The bottom layer is 3.06 meters long, the second layer is 2.5 meters long, the third layer is 1.98 meters long, and each layer is 0.25 meters high. On the base of the platform is the body of the tower, built with Xiangbai jade, with square columns, 2.45 meters high. The front of the pagoda is inlaid with a marble tablet and engraved with the inscription "Tomb of Mr. Yuan Jiliu" written by Mao Zedong. The front and left side of the base are inlaid with protective signs and explanatory tablets, and the right side is inlaid with Mr. Wang's Poems "crossing the phoenix beach" and "boat times in Taoyuan".

In 2003, the six tombs of Yuan Ji were announced as a municipal cultural relics protection unit in Shaoyang City.
